I'm not a person who is always a little bit too critical to the accommodations and services. But I tend to think that this case is exceptional one. I checked in the hotel (to the privilege room) during night time, put some of my clothes to the dedicated basket, completed the paperwork and put it on the bed before leaving the room in the morning. When I got to the room in the evening I noticed that there had been no housekeeping (room cleaning). The sign (do-not-disturb) remained inside the room. And my clothes for the laundry services remained at the room. I went back straight to the reception and ask a concierge to send someone to collect it. 40 minutes passed but nobody came. I went to the receptionist again and kindly asked again to send someone to the room. After 1.5 hours of waiting I went to the reception desk for the third time and had a talk to the manager instead of the receptionist. In 10 minutes I got my clothes collected. Next day when I returned back to the hotel at the evening I saw the same picture. No house-keeping (room cleaning) and no clothes. I had to contact the manager at the reception to get my clothes back and I had to ask the maid to get my room cleaned. I'm not saying anything that the rooms need repairing to be on level and the standards set in the network.

Generally our experience in Merchre cairo was great. Although I think it is time to do some restoration for the room. The room we staying, the lights was too dim and not enough lighting so it is difficult to unpack our stuff. So keep up the good work to maintain the hotel and not let it run down like an old hotel.

The rooms were run down, things broken. Servicing of the rooms was not consistent - not the same things brought every day. Service was unenthusiastic - staff had little interest in customers, no recognition at all of my Platinum status, no preauthorisation taken to allow restaurant charges.

« The worst experience ever at accorhotels »

The checkin was the longest one ever, more than one hour. I tried to book a room for 3 adults, the system don't allow this, I booked a suite with two communicating rooms and the surprise at the check in they asked me to pay more for the third adult. The suite with the second room can host 4 persons and we were 3 and asked to pay extra!!! I paid, and reached the room it was the big surprise. Many spots in the ground, on the Doors and mirrors, smell very bad. Back to the front office, many thanks to the duty manager ( I shared with him the pics) he was shocked and immediately moved us from this room to two separate rooms. We went to open buffet, The service is really below the standards...two persons taking care of all the service...all drinks have to be paid extra...even the water.... The check out the same, took long time, no request help, we forgot a vest we called asking after it, we never got feedback...

Room: has all the basic needs by lacked cleaning. For a 4* is totally unacceptable. Everything from the bathroom to the lights had flaws. Carpets now vacuumed / washed properly, shower was leaking, stain and patches on the walls. No wifi in the room, this is a basic need for any cafe these days forget about the hotel. Staff: not very helpful. Breakfast area staff was super laid back, tables a mess and not cleaned on time, no manager / supervisor at sight. Overall it felt that no one cares. Overall facilities: pool, not appealing, lobby dirty and work out, corridors to the rooms are filthy - carpets area a disgrace, no one picks up plates and mugs by the room doors (stayed there one night and for the full duration the glass by the neighbour's door was there)... Mercure management has to look into the staff and overall facility situation. Some places can be old, and that fine but as long as it's maintained and cleaned no one will raise an issue. I'm not a "fancy" 5* traveller, neither I was part of any touristic group, guess you can verify through my booking. It's visible that the hotel has a huge footfall and it might be challenging to keep it all in check. BUT it's a reputable chain and that one of the reasons solo travellers might book a stay with an assumption of basic comfort and cleanliness. Please do share your e-mail ID so I would send some pictures of the condition of the room, it's obvious that management doesn't check or simply can't see the faults and flaws in the hotel. Very disappointed and will be escalating the matter further to accor hotel management. Never again...

We arrived in Cairo after a stay in the Sofitels in Aswan and Luxor. The location across from the pyramids is great. You can walk to the site on foot and visit it all. Breakfast is good for what they offer of food. The staff needs more training in friendliness and saying good morning to the guests. Even just simply cleaning the tables could be much improved. At the check in the young guys rock and make you feel at home. The females are another story. The assistant manager from reception is very helpful and offered us a complimentary diner after some difficulties. The rooms are all what you need but very dark inside. Bathroom needs some updating but it works. To bad for this Mercure is that in a privilège room you normally get upgrade from products, bathrobes and slippers, this is not provided. Even on the room description it says complimentary minibar with soft drinks in the room. The mini bar is empty and they say the website is wrong. As a silver member you are always offered a welcome drink. This is the first they restrict you to only a soft drink even it says in the voucher that all drinks apply except for high end brands and champagnes. The hotel is well located and has many potential if all standards are up to level from Accor. I’m sure that this is a great hotel to spend a few days but the pool is to small compared with the number of rooms. Yes I would stay here again but not for a long time.

During my one week stay, avg the staff is friendly and kind, but the young reception guy is really lack of training and helpless. I told that young reception man that I bought early check in from 7 am and the bill is just beside his hands but what he repeat is only no no no , our regulation is check in after 12 am, fortunately is their old manager heard what i said and helped me check in. When I am going to check out I wanted to leave some stuffs there first bcoz I already booked another weeks stay and don’t want to bring everything to travel, but that young reception appear again and said no if your stuffs is not a luggage we can’t accept it, so I asked him can you help me find a paper box to store my stuffs, the answer is absolutely no.

The hotel location is nice but its very old and the services is not good. Plus, the safe box does not seem to be safe a mentioned because we have lost USD 200 and we discover it only once we left the hotel. We contact the hotel to ask the to check but none picks up the call (we called for 2 days). Very sad to see that we might have got robbed in high standard hotel but none is willing to at least pick up the call to answer our call. if i have am asked to recommended the hotel. i guess i will not.

No one of any departments answer the phone when i called from my room for tenth and tenth times , Dust were behind every piece of the room . The keys weren’t functional and i had to stand at the door everytime for long and had to change the keys more than once .
