Staff friendly and helpful. Internet in the room is bad. Bottled water not provided for free. Toilet light LED bulb half toasted, informed staff but no one fixed so we had dim toilet for our stay.

I requested for a high floor with a view months before when I booked my stay. Instead I got one of the lowest floors (4th floor to be exact) when I checked in with a view of a metal roof right outside. The window had a gap and the howling of the wind could be heard when it rained. There was also initially no safe in the room and I had to request for one. I was told the safe in some rooms were removed for servicing so why issue me this room in the first place. The pool was advertised as an outdoor heated pool. Well, the water certainly was freezing cold in winter and I was informed by the reception that the pool water was always at a set temp and cannot be heated (so where is the heated pool that was mentioned?) There were at least 2 small cockroaches in my room as well which I was pretty unsettling.

1. There was an issue with checking in due to some system malfunctioning, so after a long trip we weren't able to check in and needed to spend time waiting at the restaurant. 2. I use the word "waiting", 'cos it took at least 30 mins to bring the oysters for the starter. It felt like they were fishing for them in the ocean during that time 3. When we finally got the room, it was a wrong one. We booked the room with 2 double beds, but got with just a one bed. No one really explained it properly before hand 4. The amenities (incl. dental kits) were not available as hotel simply run out of them. Really??? 5. And the biggest frustration is that no one at any point of time offered at least anything to compensate all these unpleasant experience. I never had similar experience with Mercure before. Very bad!

I have stayed at the hotel regularly, but this was the worst experience with multiple factors contributing to a difficult stay.

Last minute change of room: After arriving after midnight the personal on reception changed my room at the last minute. I was too tired to argue. As a Gold Accor member I had booked a room on a higher floor and I know it was a better room. I was moved to a lower room directly over an alleyway looking directly at a wall. There was no welcome gift, and I had to ask for my water to be supplied. Constant noise interrupting sleep: Each night trucks and cars went through the alleyway, some stopping to collect rubbish or make deliveries. It was loud and woke me up multiple times a night. The room next door alarm went off at night and buzzed for over 30 minutes - I thought it was a fire alarm and got out of bed to check. Constant noise surround this room waking me up. Damaged Furniture: As I was travelling to work I had to work at the desk for several hours each day. The panel under my desk kept falling off the wall and hitting my knees about every 15 minutes. It was very annoying and overtime, painful. The rooms at your hotel also have terrible lighting for working. I have found this in each room I have stayed and additional lamps do not help because they all have warm atmospheric globes. An open window helps during the day, but I have no additional light in this room because it was in an alleyway behind the hotel. I understand I could have complained, but I don't like doing this and I get frustrated moving rooms. I have had good rooms previously and some generous upgrades as an Accor member, however being moved at the last minute to a sub standard room was very disappointing and extremely frustrating.

We had a smooth check in, rooms well equipped and lots of space. Location in city was great. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious. Overall we were very happy with the stay.

Unfortunately our stay was marred by the fact that despite giving 45 minutes at least in notice on both occasions, on the first morning our car was bought up 10 minutes late (we had a sports event to attend) and on the second morning we arrived downstairs to be told they couldn't start the car (instead of calling us, they waited until we came downstairs). The battery was flat, and after RAC replaced the battery they informed us that the lights had been left on. As we had an event to get to, with limited parking, we were scrambling to find a lift and were fortunate enough to find another family staying at the hotel to take us. Very disappointing to be honest.

The stay was mainly enjoyable the staff were very friendly and pleasant to me. I found breakfast in the restaurant a challenge the food was perfect and tasty but there were never enough staff to clear away used tables. It was hard to get a seat !!!

There was not anyone to help with luggage. there were not any trolleys to put luggage on to take to room. The restuarant and service was 100% as usual.

Room was basic. Bathroom was old and shower pressure was very unsatisfactory. Difficult getting in and out of shower. Check in wait time and check out wait was quite long despite online check in. Breakfast items were not replenished adequately.

Ok, the shower was not hot and unable to use the gym before 7 due to the sound of the treadmill, they could open the gym and make the treadmills available at 7.
