I felt very safe at this hotel. Good location for meetings in the CBD and near the river for running (over to South Bank and around the botanic gardens). All of the staff were very helpful, polite and friendly from the wait staff through to my room attendant. Nice room with plenty of space for a dining table as well as work desk. Good lighting in the bathroom - a must for me! The brussel sprout soup was delicious and so was my steak.

friendly and helpful although I was disappointed that I was not given any assistance to get my luggage to my room as I had two large bags to move alone - assistance was given to others

Room was very small and in need of painting. Breakfast is overpriced for the level of quality.

Biggest problem is that on the maps the main entrance is still coming up in the wrong street which is highly stressful to drive in city traffic when you don’t know the area & you have to go around the block repeatedly until you find the entrance!!! I reported this 2years ago when I stayed and it is very disappointing it still isn’t fixed!

Team were good, management must be slipping

The team were pleasant and helpful and when things were brought to their attention they got on to it well. The property has been allowed to feel a bit tired hence our title that management must be slipping as maintenance in the rooms needed to bringing up. Mostly niggles and things that prevent your building having issues like broken silicone, toilet cistern running on etc, although the aircon controller did seem to be faulty as it was like an ice box at times and wouldn't increase no matter what the temperature was at. The team noted these for repair when we mentioned them but the systems should be picking these sorts of things up. In the dining room/bar again the system to keep on top of things(management level stuff) was missing things like tables took a long time to clear after people left, the window glass was never wiped and it was at a height where hands tended to be touching it and with that view your eyes were drawn to the area. It was like the team were 1/2 person short all the time without looking rushed, again felt like more a management not getting the team to follow the system issue. In general wasn't a bad stay, just wasn't as good as usual and could do with being nipped in the bud before its hard to remedy them.

Very tired building, dysfunctional shower amenities, extremely short staffed.

Walking down the hallway to our room was like walking through a very old run down part of the building. Not very welcoming to get to the room. Once in our room we were given one complimentary bottle of water and yet there are two of us. Felt the cheapness setting in. The bathroom is an open plan shower that lets the water flood across the tiled floor in front of the toilet. Not pleasant when you need to use the toilet and stand in water. There were no extra blankets provided in the room which led to turning up the air conditioning unit creating a very hot uncomfortable room. No fresh air. The breakfast area was staffed by one person who was cleaning tables, seating guests and being the barrister. This staff member was super human and should be commended for all his efforts. We waited for ages to be seated then realised there was only one person. Other guests gave up and just walked in. The eye opener was leaving the breakfast area to find two senior staff members around the corner chatting about there weekend. Shame on them! Shame on the managers who made the decision to cut back on staff and run a business like this! One thing that definitely came through is the guests very disappointed. Its not that often people come to the city and when they do its for a real treat. The name Mercure used to have a good following for service and lovely rooms. Not any more.

Comfortable room, helpful staff, though breakfast seemed very understaffed - long wait for a staff member to sign in for breakfast and lots of the food platters were empty. I therefore had limited time and options for breakfast, and was disappointed that a small jar of chia pudding and a small jar of oats and yoghurt wasn't worth the continental breakfast price. Also disappointed that single use disposable cups were available for the conference, in much greater numbers than standard cups. Other friends attending the same conference expressed disappointment about the disposable cups and amount of gladwrap used for room service breakfast.
