Services friendly as always. Food is good. Rooms could be updated. Why, if so pricy, is there no fitness room at all?

Overall, our experience was reasonable, but the TV in our room didn't work properly (a problem with cable throughout the hotel apparently) and one of the bedside lamps was broken (not the bulb) which made reading in bed uncomfortable. I reported both of these problems to reception but there was little that could be done on the spot. In the dining room the starter help-yourself buffet was excellent and so was breakfast the following morning.

I booked the hotel on line and paid in advance. You confirmed booking by email. The hotel had no record of this and were offhand saying we should contact your headquarters on a Sunday evening to sort it out!! I emailed you on Sunday but have had no response from your customer service department. I am an Accor member 30…6500 Classic membership number. Very disappointed by the room which reeked of cigarette smoke. I had booked this hotel as I knew we would have been driving since 7am arriving at 7pm and there was a restaurant so I would not have to drive in to Lisieux to find somewhere to eat. After sorting out our booking we were told the restaurant was full. I am very disappointed by your service.

The room was comfortable but we were in the roof and the window was a skylight type but came down very low. Getting out of bed at night was the most dangerous, fortunately we didn’t hit our head! The air conditioning was set to go no lower than 22.5 degrees, which is too high for us. However the room and bed were comfortable and spacious.

The stay was fine, however please mention to the cleaners that the fridge in the room had an almost finished bottle of wine and a yoghurt drink and in the cupboard was piece of cake obviously left by the previous guest. The rest of the room was clean so I think this was just an oversight. Breakfast was great, check in and out was smooth and the staff excellent. Air conditioning would have been nice as the room was a bit stuffy.

Disappointing service

Bedroom was clean but hot and not much better than a standard family room at Ibis. Moreover, there was a cigarette burn in one of the blankets. Not really acceptable for a supposed 3 star hotel. When we arrived, we had to wait for a receptionist to check us in, despite the hotel not being very busy. Again, going for dinner at the restaurant, we were ignored for a while, and others who arrived after us were seated before us. We chose the 'buffet optimum' which was far from optimum!! We booked for 19:30, therefore early in the service, and already by then the entree buffet was looking sad and severely depleted. To top it up, a bowl of mayonnaise that had been empty for more than 10 minutes without anybody really bothered to replenish, was topped up, rather than replaced, which was looking particularly disgusting. Not the standard expected in a supposed 3 star hotel. We watched the dessert buffet disappear at the hand of a visiting coach load (which no doubt had been pre-booked) and by 20:20 it was three-quarter empty, and was at no time replenished with new desserts! Other diners started getting their desserts before their mains arrived to be sure they would not miss out. Others were scraping the crumbs. This is obviously unacceptable but seems to be standard practice. When we asked the waitress, who was quite embarrassed about it, she told us she would ask the chef, but nothing happened so I guess he didn't prepare anything more! We also noticed that it took about 20 minutes for some plates to be put out by the buffet, despite a couple remaining there. It took also 1 hour for our mains to arrive! As a result, we decided to convert our buffet choice to the one without the desserts! We raised the issue with the person who we believe was in charge and just got a sad look and excuses, blaming booking.com and children!!, and saying she agreed it was unacceptable but she didn't do anything to help either during the service. We were hoping it was just a glitch but breakfast was not much better. One person greeted us but didn't get out from behind the bar, didn't show us where everything was and we were left to our own devices. Again, we noticed that bacon had run out well before breakfast time was over and plates were not piled around the buffet area until one of the waitresses arrived for her shift. As soon as she arrived, she got plates out and started clearing up the tables of people who had left. By that time, there were in total 4 staff on duty but only one was actually working. So, we would like to commend Veronique for her dedication. Also, the coffee was dire. Why can't you have the same coffee machines as at Ibis Budget and Ibis which deliver good coffee? All in all, this was a poor experience and we don't feel incline to repeat it at Lisieux or even at anther Mercure. The standard of service was not even of a 1 star hotel. We were expecting a treat but it was anything but.

It got off to a bad start, as we were given the key to our room we discovered the room had not been cleaned or renewed from the previous guests. However this was rectified quickly by I presume Mr Alain Larue the manager. The evening meal was ok, the breakfast was excellent.

Room was nice and well presented, we did not require make for 2nd day but staff was happy to supply additional bathmat and coffee; breakfast was very good although on second morning quite a few thing ran out, probably due to large party eating together; it would have been nice to have been able to sit outside as the weather was lovely, but there were no seats.
