« A birthday treat for a little girl left her feeling happy but I was more than a little underwhelmed. »

I chose to stay at the Novotel Brighton Beach as a surprise for my daughters' birthday. I booked a room and a treatment at the spa for her 10th birthday. The concierge/reception area and staff were great upon arrival. Chris at the front desk was warm, welcoming and polite. We were excited to have been allocated a room with a view on the second highest floor of the building, which was wonderful. We were pleasantly surprised by the complementary birthday cake and gift that the hotel provided for her. It was all downhill from there though. We had guests meet us before dinner in the room.... they all laughed and joked about the musty smell and the outdated decor- kind of embarrassing for a 4-star hotel. There was a cabinet in the bedroom containing pipes that had the lid off, which was a hazzard. The toilet then did not flush(although, this was rectified very quickly, it did recur). After dinner, I realised I had no charger for my i-phone and asked at the front desk to borrow one for half an hour. I was politely told to go to Coles and buy one. The bed was very comfortable though, and the night view from the room amazing. Later, before leaving, I informed the front desk (Meghan) that I didn't realise that I had paid for 2xbuffet breakfasts inclusive in my room rate , and I inadvertently ordered room service (I paid $65) . I was met with substantial indifference from her. Her manager Neha( I think ) was better, offering me 2xdrink vouchers at the bar, which although I appreciated, I didn't have time to use. Neha (I think ) also gave me her email address. The outdoor pool and spa were well utilised during our stay. The indoor pool and sauna, not so much due to their run down appearance. The spa experience ( mani/pedi) that my daughter received was truly something she will always remember. She was treated like royalty and she could not stop smiling. My encounter with Meghan though, before leaving left a different impression on me though. The Novotel Brighton Beach is a place that is near and dear to my heart. Being a young adult in the nineties, I have fantastic memories from many experiences there when it was quite new and lovely. My experience there this time left me with mixed emotions. Some of the staff were excellent, some were not. Some parts of the stay were awesome, some were not. I think the place needs a little bit of tlc, particularly the carpet, pool/sauna, bathrooms.

« We had a reasonably pleasant stay at the Novotel. »

The staff did a great job welcoming us and were professional. The position of the hotel is brilliant and we loved our view. We also enjoyed the pool and the garden area, which was very relaxing. However we did find a few things which could be improved. The lift card was faulty on more than one occassion. We felt that our hotel room was dated and didn't reflect what we paid. The shower door was not attached properly because it was old. The bathroom floor had hairs from previous guests on the floor. The bathroom towels felt heavy and old. Our door to the balcony didn't shut properly and as a result we got cigarette smoke from neighbours smoking come into our room (715). At the buffet breakfast (2 mornings) we found the bread was stale and bacon was like leather. We would have expected much better from a top hotel like the Accor Group. As a result of these issues above we probably wouldn't stay here again or recommend it to friends.

Reception was pleasant and friendly. Extremely disappointed in accommodation: worn, patched, stained carpet. TV in awkward position - one chair so someone had to sit on edge of bed to view. Basic bathroom - very tired and in need of refurbishing.

« Everything was great until breakfast on final day »

I booked a family room at brighton le sands (as I do each year) for myself, my sister and our children. This year I booked for 2 nights but kids were having such a great time decided to extend to a 3rd night. On booking the 3rd night direct with the hotel, I asked if breakfast was included in my rate and they said yes it was (as it was the previous 2 days). On the 3rd morning we went to breakfast only to be told breakfast is only free for 2 children. So I had to pay for 3 of them. I think its unsatisfactory that we were not told this when booking the 3rd night, and didn't have any issues on the 1st or 2nd day at breakfast so there was no consistency in policy. I would have opted for a cheaper rate and not have taken up breakfast on day 3 had I have known I would have to pay for 3 kids... especially knowing that they would only eat a piece of watermelon as there aren't that many child friendly breakfast options as per previous years when we stay there on our annual trip. This left a sour taste in my mouth as we should have been advised when booking the 3rd night... not sure if we will be back next year, after 5 years of staying there.
