There were some positives and negatives. The concierge and valet parking service was excellent as were the staff in the restaurant and at check in. We came in for my wife's birthday with our two children (aged 4 and 11 months) and received a lovely birthday card and platter which was nice. However, the air conditioning was not working in our room and it was extremely uncomfortable during our stay. The room temperature ranged between 25.5 and 28 degrees. I contacted reception in the afternoon just after we arrived and a maintenance man came to assist with the air conditioner and it was put to the lowest temperature. He advised it would not fall below 16 degrees - it never fell below 25.5! We were also disturbed (we were asleep) by a staff member at 10.55pm knocking on our door, she had the wrong room. I explained this at checkout to the staff member who was apologetic and said she would let her manager know. I haven't heard anything back other than the following email (signed off by the 'hotel operator) which left a sour taste in our mouth. Dear Paul D., We hope you enjoyed your stay at Novotel Melbourne on Collins. Unfortunately upon your departure from the hotel an outstanding mini bar charge of $31.50 was omitted from the final account for Room 1222. We apologise for not providing a correct account at the time of check out. The items counted are: 1 x Red Wine $17.00 1x Mount Franklin $4.50 1x Sprite $5.00 1x Chocolate $5.00 Total $31.50 If you are in agreement with the above charge and would like to arrange payment please contact us directly. If the above charge is in error please accept our apologies and contact us immediately via email or on 03…. Kind regards Hotel Operator We responded outlining that we disagreed with the charges because the only item we used from the mini bar was a sprite (and we were happy to pay for this). We were given a mount franklin with fruit platter and dish with rocky road and strawberries as a gift for my wife’s birthday. We pointed out we felt the cost of the sprite should be waived due to the issue with the air conditioning and being disturbed. We received this reply from Pierre the next day: Thanks Mr D.. No problem re. the mini bar. Our apologies for the troubles experienced during your stay. Kind regards Pierre. Based on this experience it is unlikely we will return.

We are always impressed with staff at Accor Hotels, particularly Novotel; always make us feel welcome. Novotel Melbourne so conveniently situated and the beds are very comfortable. With our advantage plus card we enjoy our discounted meals and usually eat at the Hotel.

Service once I got to the hotel was amazing but previous to that was an absolute nightmare. Not that the person/s weren’t nice but the experience was atrocious and ridiculously mishandled over the phone. All in all it worked out but yeah what a nuisance to start with! Not worth going into detail because it’s exhausting!

Cassandra the booking specialist from Novotel Collin street did an amazing job in booking me the room . As we are from Melbourne and came for conference meeting the location was our main priority due to early Y start and late finish of conference . The coincerange team was soo good that they helped us with luggage and kept in cloak room . There was a confusion with check in time( when I called at 1 pm they said the room was ready when I reached the hotel with my toddler it wasn’t) had to wait in lobby for 30 mins . After check in, after an hour or more realised that air cooler wasn’t cooling enough. Was hard to get rest with toodler were we both ended up being cranky. The staff came to check in and she herself found it was not working. The building inspec manager came and said this is how it is... I wasn’t satisfied but had to rush to dinner. Came back and they managed to shift me to another room were the fan was running in aircooler but not ac . Managed to sleep but the noise that came from the cooler was loud and annoying. Two sleepless nights was the result. But one good thing out of this the staff always greeted with a smile which made me forget about the aircooler fault. Hated to go back room so tried staying at lobby and kids corner for toddler. Staff team and the management are the biggest asset for this Collins hotel. Up they couldn’t help me out much bcz it was busy .

Concierge staff at level 1 were helpful and welcoming. Staff at the reception were similarly helpful during check in and check out. The housekeeping was a little bit erratic, on somedays the room was made up in a certain way while on other days it was another way. We were also not sure if the room was vacuumed everyday.

Room was big and decorated well. The air con over night would not stay on unless the light stayed on, I had no sleep the second night due to having the light on most of the night. Not happy. I went home exhausted.

Stayed with colleagues from American Express. We all had a poor experience, faulty lights, noisy fans, burst pipes and smelly rooms and one of my colleagues had fleas in the shower. The manager wasnt even going to move her, they just tried to spray the shower! I have always loved this hotel but I will not be going back
