« great location matched with friendly hospitality »

People at St Kilda Novotel could afford to be offhand. Prime tourist locations, such as this vibrant bayside suburb, so close to the throbbing city of Melbourne, don't rely on "return business". Well, I've stayed twice [& I live in Melbourne!] The staff here, from beaming smiles at front of house, through the dining chefs to the attentive cleaning & maintenance folk: they all take pride in their work & strive to make sure your stay is a happy one.

We enjoyed the location but thought that the room was dated and noisy due to being next to the lift. Pool was cold but stated heated. Pool was also dirty.

« Good location needs a revamp »

Location is great pool as described was meant to be heated it was freezing my kids who normally will jump into anything couldn’t even stay in the pool it was so cold .. room was spacious but old tap in bathroom were nearly falling apart and beds where very old and uncomfortable.. good location staff were friendly but unfortunately only positives

Overall the stay was nice. A couple of days away for a break and to be in St Kilda for a change was welcome. Staff were terrific when we were in contact with them which was rare. We paid extra to have a bay view, pity that from the main vantage point being the bed the only view we had was of the western wall of the hotel, so when sitting reading the paper to look up and see this wall instead of the bay was ordinary. To look out onto the bay one had to position oneself at an angle at the desk in a limited space. Room was a little small for our liking with limited wardrobe and bathroom space. Certainly would not choose to come here again.

Room 303 lovely. Breakfast good, though unremarkable. My daughter had a sleepless night in room 316; their bed old and sagged in the middle. They did not sleep.

« Disappointing return visit »

Check in service was efficient however room was disappointing. Also the hallway was very tired and in need of a paint. Considering we are Accor members and have previously stayed at this property it was disappointing to be given a room overlooking the car park. In addition it was a room with a connecting door. Crikey - it was like tissue paper! I even heard the people next door yawning. What was not appreciated was the loud TV blaring until at 1.07am I rang the night reception who did contact the room immediately and ask they turn the volume down. I have stayed in a number of hotels over the years and in many hotels a connecting room will have a door on both sides (security and noise reduction) this did not. The tap in the bathroom basin was incredibly "sticky" hence you had to give it a good nudge to turn it on, only then to be covered in water from it shooting out. Conveniently the hotel had provided a lovely form regarding maintenance which we thought to complete - alas the pen didn't work!!!! Breakfast - well what can I say. 3 years ago it was awesome. Really busy and lovely breakfast with lots of selections. This time - pretty quite and very poor options considering the amount you pay. Juice selection for make your own was carrot and celery. The lifts - incredibly slow. Tried to find stairs to take but they went nowhere. Spoke to a group of 4 that also waited with us for a long time for the lift and they had previously stayed there and said it had declined immensely. Is this because the property, or some of it, has been sold to become apartments?

Location and staff wonderful. Air conditioning control was loose on the wall. It did work but you couldn't adjust up or down as unit detached slightly from wall so screen did not show adjustments. Some skirting boards had dust. Stayed for 3 nights and on day 3 left note asking got sone more small milks for tea - this was ignored. Also shampoo, conditioner and shower gel not replaced on one day. Had paid for express breakfast but restaurant stay didn't always acknowledge this as prepaid and wanted to bill my room I was really looking forward to the pool but realised after one swim getting out without a handrail wasn't easy for me - also tiles on edge were wet and slippery as I got out so quite dangerous. I don't think I have seen a pool without any rails at all.

Friendly staff throughout the hotel. Fantastic buffet breakfast. Clean rooms, great ocean view room. Hotel acknowledged our wedding anniversary and provided us with a bottle of champagne in our room upon arrival. Lovely surprise.
