I have been staying in hotels often but this is the first time that I feel the necessity to write down about my experience I had been staying at Mercure Bologna for 5 or 6 years in a row for professional reasons during the Bologna fiera. Until Covid. Although it always was slightly old fashioned... I always loved my stay in Mercure Bologna. So after more than five years I was excited to return to Mercure Bologna. I booked a nice room according to the booking site for 388,55€ per night (not cheap). Upon my arrival I was given room 222. The room wasn't cleaned (there were crumbs on the table, the bed wasn't made and there was something left in the bathroom... but I do understand mistakes can happen). the room had two very very small windows with bars high up the wall so you could not even see outside and I don't think you could even open them. The room was Absolutely Boiling Hot ( they told me the city forbids them to use the airconditioning at this time of year) and it would have been absolutely impossible to sleep .... in short: The room felt like a boiling hot prison cell ( 388,55€ + 15€ breakfast= 403,55€ for that!). So I returned to reception to tell them that the room hadn't been cleaned and if I please could have a decent room with a window to open to let some cool air during the night ( remember no airco). "That is certainly possible, Sir, for another extra 60 euro's per night".... it all felt like a very simple trick to get more money out of people's pockets. Also there were some renovating works going on which at moments brought some noise. No problem wit that, I understand, ... but this is certainly not the moment to scam people into paying even more for a normal room. Chances are small that I will be returning to Mercure Bologna next year... Will miss the friendly staff though.

Good hotel. Right across from train station. Getting a taxi was difficult. Not much help from concierge on Wednesday, April 10. We almost missed our excursion.

We were supposed to stay somewhere else on this trip but had to book accomodation immediately and it was possible. I am very grateful this could be achieved and the beautiful lady who checked us in was amazing. I did feel that a couple of your staff were making fun of me on the last day we stayed in your hotel and it did not feel nice. I don't speak Italian but I am a kind person but I can recognise when something is amiss eg body language and tone. That is my only negative point but am grateful that I was able to be accommodated. The room was lovely.
