Having booked and paid for well in advance using the Accor website we opted for a south facing garden view room, which was enormous and contained one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. We found the staff extremely friendly, especially the chap on reception whom checked us in & out. The only complaints we have is that for the price we paid, we felt breakfast should have been included, having stayed in many 5 star hotels worldwide this usually the norm. Also, from your website it is very misleading in that it gives you the impression that the beach facilities are part of the hotel, when infact they are not, and an additional fee is payable for there use.

We stayed lovely large rooms. One of them had a smaller bathroom. Both rooms were nice with a view of the square in front of the hotel. Would have been nice with sea view. The breakfast was quite good. But not up to mgallery standard. The staff was kind and helpful and the hotel has all over the Grand Hotel feeling of old days. Keep up the good work and we will certainly be back.

We'd booked a spacious room with balcony on floor 2 overlooking the sea front - what a fantastic view! The room was extremely spacious and sleep quality excellent. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, for example: Parking at the front of the hotel is very difficult in Summer, but the Bell Desk offered for us to leave the car in the 1 minute parking and to move it once a space became available. This was by no means our first stay at the Grand Hotel and certainly won't be our last :o)

The hotel has all the amenities of a a 4 star hotel. Location, service, food, comfort only one thing missing the air conditioner in the room does not work properly. The thermostat on the wall is decorative only. Apparently, it’s outdated and needs revamping.

Beautiful hotel, ideally situated. Fabulous rooms, gourmet food. But why on Earth are the hotel’s beach and outside seating area not open to guests before 7 th July? We had to pay for a canopy and seats on the municipal beach. On asking why these areas were not open we were told that it would ‘be open when guests arrive at the weekend’. What were we if not guests????? Very disappointing to not be able to sit outside and view the beach, especially when the hotel refers to itself as a beach hotel.

This was a short break for my wife and me. We arrived early due to the ferry timetable from Portsmouth . We checked in and were advised that the room would not be available until 2pm when we would be called. No offer of a cup of coffee or other hospitality was made. In the event the room was not ready until 3pm though we had to go to reception to discover this and no call was received. The room was spacious and nicely decorated with a view over the beautiful Casino Gardens. Storage space for clothes etc was in one small wardrobe. Despite the hotel knowing we were booked in for 6 nights no additional storage space had been provided until we asked for more when a chest of drawers was brought in. The switches for the lights in the room were not accessible without having to get out of bed. The door to the Promenade was shut for 3 of our 6 days for refurbishment of the steps meaning that all guests had to walk around the side street to reach the beach. This work should have been planned for the low season.. The hotel claims to have a private beach but this is simply a strip of sand roped off where loungers and tents can be rented. We had dinner on the first night of our stay. This was very nicely presented if rather expensive at over 200 Euros for 2 with only 2 small glasses of wine. Despite this , we had wanted to repeat dining on our last evening only to find that the restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. How a 5star hotel does this is extraordinary. Breakfast was first class. Overall, a pleasant enough stay but I did feel that for the money it was something of a let down.

« AC did not work. Room was extremely hot. Repairs “done” but it took hours to cool and the machinery made noise all night. »

Beautiful old building turned into malfunctioning hotel. It was like they did not know I was coming and didn’t care that had a very hot room.

« Mixed in two halves. One have was excellent the 2nd half was terrible. »

The 1st night was exceptional & the room was very good. All staff were very polite, welcoming & very helpful. From when we were asked to move rooms, things from bad to worse. The room was not good. We explained everything to the reception staff & requested corrections but they were incapable of addressing these & had no authority to change things. Throughout, they remained polite & treated us with courtesy but unable to help. We addressed everything at check out with Philippe Marjoux who was extremely helpful & tried very hard to recover at least part of the situation. We are grateful to him for at least trying.
