We live both in Tuscany/Italy and the North of London/UK and we drive the 1800km back and forth and use the hotel as our half way stop off. This was our 6 stay at the hotel and the previous 5 were very good as was the restaurant. As we travel with 2 dogs we always book a duplex. We had room 3 this time on the ground floor. On arrival the room was freezing cold, the heating system didn't work and in fact setting it to heat actually pushed out cold air. The main room was not particularly clean and the sofa bed was stained with food (easily washed off) and the curtains had curry stains on them, there was also a pack of condoms in the cupboard and only one coffee cup in the cupboards. The bedroom was similarly freezing cold and the linen curtain had huge rips in it, obviously someone opening the window had trapped the curtain. So the room this time was disappointing and it could have been as good as previous stays with a small amount of care and attention to detail by the bedroom staff and the inspection supervisor. We have eaten dinner in the restaurant and had 5 very nice experiences and the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. On this occasion we noticed there was a lot of new staff. The grumpy waiter who greeted us wasn't a good start and we requested a table on the back wall as it more comfortable and not in the thoroughfare of the staff and guests. We were told most were booked, which is fair, but there were 3/4 tables free but for 4 persons. We asked for one of these and this was refused and we were given the choice of sitting in the open area only. On previous occasions this hasn't been a problem but the grumpy unfriendly waiter seemed inflexible. We did notice later that he did allow other twosomes to sit on these free tables there so this was disappointing. The same waiter took our order which was two sirloin steaks with peppercorn sauce, fries and a salad. To our surprise the steaks arrived literally a few minutes later. This seemed odd as we would expect our food, especially steaks to be freshly cooked. The steaks were smothered in the sauce and both were not very warm, the chips were barely warm too and there wasn't any salad. We started as we were hungry and assumed the salad would arrive. I struggled to cut my steak but managed to find a small area that was ok. The steak was cold and had obviously been pre-cooked and then put on a grill for a minute. My chips were cold on the top but slightly warmer down the dish. My wife's steak was the same but she could not cut nor find any part edible. We struggled to get the attention of a waiter. Eventually someone was flagged down a young female waiter and we told her we still hadn't any salad, my wife's steak was poor and that the food was cold. At this point I had eaten a few mouthfuls and decided I had had enough of the poor food. The waiter spoke to the manager who took my wife's steak and cutlery offering to prepare another one. My wife asked for the sauce to be separate and requested our salads. Again to our surprise the fresh steak arrived a few minutes later, with fries. This time there was no sauce but my wife had salad?? I requested the waitress to bring the sauce, my salad and some cutlery for my wife to eat the food. The sauce and my salad didn't arrive but the cutlery did. My wife's replacement steak was as bad, cold, pre-cooked and warmed and cold fries. We asked to speak to the manager again who came over. We explained the issues and he didn't apologise, was abrupt telling us that sometimes the staff in the kitchen forget to put things on the plate !! He offered to get a 3rd steak, but the experience was becoming a joke and we refused. He then offered us cheese or coffee. But we had come out for a meal not a bit of cheese/coffee!! I told the manager I was unhappy, he shrugged his shoulders and walked off. I went to pay the bill and to my surprise we had been charged for the food. I asked to speak again to the manager, but he shrugged his shoulders again and walked off into the kitchens!! I have spent 30 years travelling the world with my work and quite honestly have never come across such a rude uninterested restaurant manager. I went to the front desk of the hotel, explained and asked to speak to the duty manager. The receptionist requested I speak to the restaurant manager and I explained I had already done so but was very unhappy and will not pay the food element of my bill just the drinks. I was then told there isnt a manager on site and could I come back in the morning. I explained I could but was leaving at 7:30am. I was then told the manager would not be here then. I explained that I am aware that hotels of this size always have a senior member of staff on site and requested to speak to that person. The duty person then went off into the kitchens to speak to a senior person himself. The receptionist then returned stating that he was taking the food element of my bill. I never did get to meet a senior hotel manager who is responsible for customer experience and service which is poor. I must state this experience has made us think carefully about returning to the hotel, or recommending it to friends and colleagues who likewise undertake these long journeys by car. I have nearly 300 reviews on trip adviser with 150,000 readers and I put details of my stay on there as a new review having previously been positive about the hotel. I am travelling back to Italy in 2 weeks and am contemplating my options for an over night stay!! Is my experience a one-off or will I come across the same scenario?? Robert B.

The heating/air conditioning unit in my room (405) didn't work. I asked the front desk about it on Day 1 and the desk manager said she would take care of it. I told the person I would be willing to change rooms if the unit was broken. It was never fixed, and I never heard back from anyone.

Lyon is a lovely place and the hotel Mercure Lyon is a gated quaint little place that is peaceful with an amazing breakfast! Older room with some modern touches that offer just what you need to do business in the area. Close to the shopping areas that have outstanding food and Fountain show with music and a short 30 minute drive to downtown. Great caesar salad and at the Sunset restaurant/bar located in hotel.

The hotel is fine although it is in need of updating. The beds and shower room are clean. The toilets need to be looked at - they don't flush well and there are dirty brown (limescale or something like that) stains which are very unappealing indeed. I had to ask to move to another room because the first room toilet was not flushing property (even toilet paper not flushing away). Not good. Good customer service in fact would have been to upgrade me but I was just moved to another room where actually the toilet wasn't much better. Disappointing. The fridge in the room was working but very dirty. Better to take it out of the room if it isn't going to be clean. I had purchased some food but decided not to use the fridge as a result. Breakfast is good, staff are friendly enough.

To stay only one night for Business it was ok. However, for a 4 star hotel I would expect that the shower gel holder is filled up and the toilet paper holder is checked and working. I was not able to make it work. When I arrived the person at the reception did even not stand up and was sitting on a chair behind the desk. I was only asked for my name and they would not even ask for an identification document. Also there was no information on the breakfast hours neither from the person at the reception nor could I find some info in the room. When I went for breakfast (at 06.30h) no staff was there to check for the guests nor there was a control. I was asked when checking out if I had breakfast as it was extra cost and I was honest and said yes that I had breakfast. However, I could have easily said no and have it for free. The coffee machine showed an error message and I reported it to a staff person working there. However, after 15 minutes when I left the machine was not repaired. I am aware that there are different levels of quality in the different countries and also due to the Women Football World Championship the hotels in Lyon were almost fully booked, but for a 4 star hotel the quality has to be better. This is the time where you can do promotion for the hotel.

The room was not clean, it smelt as it had not been open for months. Towels have been changed even though they were on the holders (not in line with environmental communication displayed in the room) Air conditioning not properly set for a duplex room

Full of small thing that makes the whole experience not wanting to come again again. Breakfast was the only thing where everything went well. When I came back to my room on the following day still had the glass of mojito from the night before. Dining table we got served our meal prior to any drinks! Got a commercial gesture however not professional at all. With 35 degrees heat you expect a cold drink first! The fries coming with meal were cold ... Staff partying in the swimming pool after 11pm - even at time of bill the morning receptionist was not professional - and my colleague that asked to swap room the following day due to the size of it and smell inside was told by the receptionist on following day shift that he was not aware... well overall a bad experience

I am traveling for work all the time and this is one of the worst hotels I am staying in. The restaurant this week was so full because additional tables in the atrium were used to store plates and dishes for conference. At the end there was no space to sit down and have breakfast. No vegetables for breakfast. I order a burger at the bar and after one piece I left the rest because it was so awful. Another day lasagne was defrost in microwave and it was still freezing cold inside. I hope there will be another hotel build around the Vilage and I will not need to stay here again.

staff service is excellent. Rafik at reception is always very welcoming and this trip he went out of his way to help me personally. In addition the bar staff including Micheal and the head maitre d' always provide top quality service.
