I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff were all so nice. The reception staff were lovely and very helpfull and the bar staff also could not do enough for us. Can't wait for my next holiday to come back here thanks Novotel we will definitely be back.

« Dissapointing and concerning »

Dirty rooms and walkways, in that the carpets are filthy and covered with a range of stains that give cause for concern (the cleaning undertaken during the stay was fine, the staff are fighting a losing battle). Carpets in corridors are ruckled which poses a safety hazard. The reception & bar area were fine however the restaurant needs a revamp. The food served in the evening was good. Breakfast was not so good

« Very good service and staff but the hotel was a bit dated/in need of redecoration. »

Lovely staff, good sized room, good location but everything apart from Reception was a bit dated. Room needed a good lick of paint and furniture was a bit damaged and old. Bed was very comfy and food was nice and great value - so overall a very positive experience.

« Convenient for Great North Run »

Stayed Saturday and Sunday night for the Great North Run. The Saturday night pre-run pasta buffet was a great idea, ideal preparation for the event. We also liked being able to use the pool and steam room. It was a little disappointing that breakfast wasn't included in the cost of the room, given that prices were very high that particular weekend. The only other negative point was that the receptionist tried to charge us £40 for extras when we had only bought food and drink worth £29.

« Reasonable quality hotel - good for airport »

I stayed for one night on way back home to Hertfordshire from Scotland. I arrived quite late and left quite early so didn't have a chance to view the hotel in any detail. The room was fairly modern and well equipped and had free WiFi which was a bonus. I stayed for breakfast which was good value for money. Overall recommended for a short stay.

« The worst meal I have ever eaten. »

Enjoyed the use of the pool and the nicely made bed, that's it. Had the worst meal I have ever encountered in the restaurant and found my room to have tired decor and unclean looking carpet. Staff wise, there was a pleasant chap behind the bar but the rest of the staff seemed uninterested in my existence. The meal consisted of a taco shell filled with a vinegary obviously bought in sauce with a couple of prawns floating in it. Followed by a pulled pork sandwich that smelled like a sweaty arm pit and was inedible. I ordered a rocket salad with this, which consisted of a handful of rocket leaves, a couple of halves of a cherry tomato and a few shavings of some kind of synthetic tasting cheese for which I was charged an extra £4.00! The head waiter smirked when he asked me how my meal was and no wonder he found it funny. I doubt very much that this feedback will be used to improve services because it is damned obvious that no cares.

« delivered less than promised »

Dear Ms. Hodgson Recently stayed 2 nights, (24th Aug) - very disappointing - gold member but booked executive room, (know about potential upgrade but didn’t want to chance it), as sharing with my son and thought it might be a bigger room. However room tight for space and awkward to enter shower area. Carpet appeared stained and overall room looked tired. Curtains left open so room very hot from direct sun all day and air con struggled unsuccessfully to cool room. Lift periodically froze and didn’t come to third floor. Yes of course I have a bum knee and yes could do with the exercise but not what I wanted. Walked down and reported to reception who apologised with " oh not again" and went to fix it. Bar service first night - no Kronenbourg and before I asked about food - was told the specials listed were not available. Dinner and service ok. Second night down to dinner, went to bar – Kronenbourg back –hurrah, however no bar staff behind bar – manager popped in , said back in one minute – after 5 I gave up and went to restaurant. Food ordered at 8.05, enquired 8.25 where food was – several others in same boat. Told tills broken and communication error with kitchen – not sure why waiter didn’t think to ask in kitchen when no food offered for service. Adjacent tables served before us even though ordered after us – eventually received food at 8.45. Burger and fish – not too difficult I think. Offered and received complementary drink but would have preferred service as whole experience ruined the stay. Manager keep saying he knew how I felt, but he looked as though he had had his dinner – but should it have occurred in first place? I like and try to stay in Accor hotels but this visit has left me nervous, so much so that when we are off the Leeds to drop the student child off I didn’t want to risk staying with the group and having the whole family not only disappointed with the hotel but giving me earache all the 4 hours driving home. ps – appreciate the welcome fruit offering but how much cellophane was it wrapped in – nearly enough to cut a hole in and wear as a poncho! pps – not flying but still charged for parking – understand need to deter but surely genuine short term guests?

« Comfortable stay with excellent service from helpful and friendly staff »

Easy to find, just off the A1. Comfortable rooms. Staff were very accommodating: they managed to give us one of our two booked rooms (for a party of 4 adults and 3 children) early so we could get changed for a family birthday party after the long drive up from London, and also tracked us down later to make sure we got our Welcome drinks (as an Accor silver member). Good breakfast.

« Convenient hotel for few nights. »

I have been staying in this hotel several times a year for past 4 years to visit family . It is cheap but getting less cheerful. It needs redecorating and fixtures and fittings replacing. Cleaning not as efficient . Staff still helpful and friendly.

« Swimming pool out of control »

The staff at the hotel, rooms and appearance at the hotel are all well above standard. But unfortunately our stay was very upsetting because a family had taken over the pool area. They were very disruptive, throwing drinking water over each other, leaving showers running ,sauna door open, dropping towels in the pool.,And they were not checked by the staff.Even though the area is monitored by cctv. A shame.

Very helpful gentleman looked after me when I checked in. Bathroom facilities a bit old fashioned and I meant to mention on check out a horrible drain smell coming for the bathroom sink. I was in Room 121 so needs looking in to! Not as nicer room as I have had before even though I paid the same price as always but appreciate the spaciousness of your rooms no time for breakfast but I know your food is very nice. Thank you
