The advanced check-in worked as our room key was available immediately on arrival. We eat in the restaurant throughout our stay but the waiting staff, including the restaurant manager appeared disorganised, uncooperative with each other, even clearing one side's plates before the other had finished eating and on one occasion removing cutlery while we were using it and generally not very friendly - except for Gabor who was perfect in every way. There was usually an absence of the restaurant staff to greet diners for both breakfast and dinner - people arrived and spent a while looking lost until they decided to sit down or were found by a waiter. The room was clean but the shower hose was broken, this took two requests and 36 hours to rectify - didn't the cleaner notice this? The location is good for shops, ferries and sightseeing.

Staff were lovely, breakfast fine but room was not clean (hairs on wall, stains on carpet) and the room was much less nice than it look online (dark, cramped, dingy).

A little annoyed when we arrived at check in to be told our room was not ready until 2pm?, the time was 1.40pm? and to come back at 2, so we had a little walk round outside and went back in at 2.15pm to be told it still wasn't ready, fortunately she found us another room , it was a nice room and we were happy with it, we were going on a cruise and so only had a 2 night stay, not only is it really handy for the cruise terminals but also the city centre and West Quay shopping centre, where there are a variety of places to eat, the second night we ordered room service, which was quite a nice meal, all in all we were happy with our stay, and would certainly book there again if going on a cruise in the future.

Room layout needs redesign. Narrow separated toilet, slow basin drainage and non-functional air-con (a table fan is provided) are not what one expected in a 4-star hotel.

Reception staff polite, helpful , efficient and knowledgeable. Had booked and checked in on line seamless.Great first impression.The room was cared for and spotless, plentiful soft towels ,hair drier, safe, fan ,fridge with water.Room service prompt ,hot and delicious at reasonable price. Room at rear quiet, bed comfortable.Breakfast a delight with plentiful and extensive self service and superb coffee. All Staff welcoming,keento ensure you enjoy your stay and helpful.Real hospitality as it should be. Check out online efficient and reception staff attentive.Parking plentiful at £10 per day when paid at hotel.You let them know your reg and then the barrier lets you come and go as you wish great value compared to same parking around the centre of Southampton.Have stayed before and it is our 1st choice not only for service but for the whole package not forgetting the swimming pool lovely with lights in the evening when dark outside.

Halime had coordinated prior to the event and taken details of what we require. On the day Isabella had everything ready as told to Halime. The rooms suited our requirement. Lunch was good as well. Only issue that panel mentioned was that the rest rooms were on the ground floor. that meant occasional longer break between the meetings.

« Fairly decent Novotel. Feels like it is mid refurb though. »

Check in, having already done so online, was quite labourious when it was made to sound like we'd pick up a key and breeze in. Had to give card details all over again and pay for parking (!) Rooms comfortable and possibly recently refurbed inside, but the corridors and doors felt like we were in a dormitory. The downstairs bar and breakfast area have clearly been updated as quite out of place with the rest of the hotel. The sauna and pool were a great addition and we used both. Breakfast so, so. Bland eggs and soggy hash browns. Felt a bit budget. Bar service was good and it was great having a fridge in the room. Great location to the far end of town near the civic centre, well within walking distance.

« The rooms were very comfortable and cosy and I enjoyed my stay. »

The rooms were of a good size, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was very clean and it was enjoyable to stay in. However, the rooms were either too cold or too hot and even when requested to change the temperature it still wasn't changed which caused me to get a ill for a wedding I was attending the next morning which was not fortunate.

We had a great time - nice staff, nice breakfast, nice room and swimming pool. Convenient location for the New Forest and Southampton. Our only quibble was that the My Room we had booked wasn't available, but upon enquiry we were given another one rather than just a standard hotel room so we were happy.

« A delightful, friendly hotel with good staff, good food, excellent beds. »

The best thing: the food, especially the brilliant breakfast buffet. The worst thing: the absurd tap on the bathroom sink. Very difficult to see the red and blue marks for hot and cold. Very hard to get the kettle under the tap, and hard to see the level of water while filling. The flow of water is too far back, and as the tap doesn't move if you spit in the bowl there's no way of removing it. The stopper wasn't working. I'm used to bizarre arrangements in hotel bathrooms, but this is the worst I've come across.
