« Porto and Gaia at your feet »

I normally stay in Porto center when I visit this city. This time I chose Novotel Gaia. Located in the top of a mountain in Gaia with magnificent view of Douro River joining the sea, Nice hotel, great rooms, Yummy breakfast and gentle crew all very well located, few minutes from Gaia's caves as well as from Porto riverside. I really enjoyed it and recommend. Very good hotel for family with kids with playground and eletronic games attractions.

Friendly welcome and excellent staff. Nice clean comfortable room. My daughter enjoyed the pool. A little out of main tourist area but an easy, quick and inexpensive trip in by taxi (6 euros). Good breakfast.

The description on the website is misleading. On first examination it mentions the hotel being 2.3 Kms from city centre but in reality it is over 6 which is mentioned further down.

« Another good experience with Accorhotels »

Stayed recently in the Mercure hotel nearby but due to availability and short stay strictly on business decided to try the Novotel in same area in Gaia. We enjoyed again the excellent standard, clean and comfortable rooms, great service. Unfortunately no time to try out the restaurant or breakfast buffet.

It was not the fault of Novotel that there were no taxis due to issues with Uber and the city Taxi’s but I think Novotel could have provided transport (hourly) to the town or to the airport, and this could have been in conjunction with the other hotels in the group at Porto Gaia.

The Hotel is really suited to business rather than Holidays, as a car is required due to the isolated position. ( Taxis were on strike the week we were there). and it is all but impossible to walk into Porto. (We only discovered a nearby bus stop on the last day, and no advice of this was available from the Hotel.)

Fantastic staff, everything was fine except for one thing: carpet in room needs to be replaced. Absolutely filthy! Room was clean but carpet old and disgusting.

loved the location on the river as we love walking. Near a small fishing village and not at all touristy. Hotel was great and managed to swim everyday. Lovely breakfast too.

We arrived a little early which was accommodated. The pool was perfect after a long drive and very clean and well looked after. The restaurant area was inviting and breakfast was very good next morning.
