« Superior room below standard & poor customer service from one member of staff »

Following a long drive through France to Anglet we were looking forward to the normally high standard of the Novotel brand.On checking in we were allocated room 275 which in our opinion was certainly not of a superior standard. The inside of the bath was stained, all painted doors were badly chipped, there was mould around the window frames, the furniture was stained and the bathroom mirror was badly chipped around the edges. We have stayed at this hotel on many occasions but have never stayed in a room that was below an acceptable standard. However, we decided to ‘make do’ and look forward to our stay the following evening at the Novotel, Valladolid in Spain where excellent standards in all aspects are guaranteed.However, we were not able to ‘make do’ with the awful noise from the heavy plant machinery used by the gardeners working outside the hotel just by our room. Also we were not able to open the window to allow fresh air into the room as the room was hot – in addition to the awful noise the fumes from the machinery were overwhelming. I went down to speak to Nina, the young lady on reception to enquire what time the gardeners would be finished only to be met by an unhelpful, disinterested attitude and to be told she didn’t know but maybe 5 or 6pm. I also mentioned that the room was of a poor standard but my main concern was the noise. She checked on her computer and informed me that she had no availability to move us to a different room….I didn’t actually ask to be moved to a different room but simply wanted to know what time the gardeners would be finished and to make her aware of the poor standard of room we had been allocated. I informed her that we needed to relax in our room after our long drive and if we knew what time they would be finished we would maybe go out for a drive and return when they had completed their work. Nina did not seem that interested in our concerns and did nothing to try to resolve the issue.However, I would like to say a big thank you to the young lady on reception who checked us out the following morning as she listened and acted upon our concerns and who went out of her way to liaise with the reception staff at the Novotel Valladolid to organise some special treats to be delivered to our room which was totally unexpected and much appreciated.Unfortunately I would have to agree with another reviewer that this hotel has lost is sparkle and we will probably not return any time soon.

« Lost its Sparkle »

Stayed at this hotel pre and post makeover , and in the past my experience of this hotel was very good ,and i even claimed it to be one of my favourites , my experience this time did not meet my expectations. Did online check in and arrived at 1245 , got key to our room ,however when we went to the room the maid had not finished ... no problem , and made it clear to take you time , as we would go for something to eat .No hot soup on the menu , and no tastier burgers , a winning formula in the past .ordered ham omelette (omelette jambon ) but got a plain one instead , nothing wrong with it ,and it was nice ,but not what i wanted. Breakfast is served between 6.00 and 1030 , someone needs to tell the waiter that , first morning , arriving just after 10.00, no milk in the coffee machine , and the other one had been switched off for cleaning , the hot ovens had been switched off to , bacon and sausages cold .....Next morning arriving before 10.00 hot ovens switched off , but one coffee machine still going the other being switched off for cleaning ...3rd moring no sign of the clock watching waiter , got hot bacon and sausages and hot coffee, it was nice to sit and take your time and enjoy your breakfast , 1 out of 3 is appalling.This hotel is not cheap and breakfast cheap either . This used to be a really good hotel that i enjoyed coming to , based on my experience this time it really needs to improve.No doubt i will get a apology and will thank us for my feedback , but something needs done , judging how busy the hotel and restaurant was at one time and look at it now , well it has lost its sparkle .Would welcome any feedback ...........

great holiday in an easy going hotel with really helpful staff in all operating areas nothing too much trouble for them to arrange.the only down part of the holiday is the cost of taxi's which is out of control but you may be in a position to pressure for discounts for hotel guests.

Myself and my colleague arrived in the hotel just before 8 after a late business meeting and on turning up at the restaurant a few minutes after 8 we were informed that it closed at 8 and we could only get food on room service, which was unacceptable for a large chain to say.

We enjoyed the welcome and service in this nicely renovated hotel. Rooms are the usual standard but the restaurant and all the other area have been designed with taste. The kids were happy with the attention they received. Everybody enjoyed the dinner and breakfast in the restaurant.

« Extremely dissatisfied with room set up and sofa bed for 2 children (aged 10 and 8) »

We booked a 2-day family stay in the family room overlooking the pool, directly calling the hotel. We were not informed that the rooms had not been renovated. As we arrived, we were quite shocked by the old set up of the room, compared to the general standing of the hotel. As the children got to bed at night, my daughter fell on the head, as the space was so tiny between the open couch and the wall. I am very unhappy as I was told later that I should have given the feedback and requested an additional mattress to place on the worn Sofa bed. it is my understanding that the hotel had the ages of the children, and given the old beds, should have themselves, set up the additional mattress in advance. Our children slept very poorly for 2 nights. Unacceptable in a 4 star hotel. The hotels we visited before and after were much better, though bearing 3 stars only. I was not given any choice at booking, to upgrade to a renovated room either. Poor booking, poor quality. I am not intending to be back, despite a very nice time at the Spa. What a pitty!

« A bit pricy »

Small room to be a family one. When the do-not-disturb sign is hanging on the door handle, it should be respected. Breakfast was average. On the plus side, most of the staff was nice and smiling. For the spa, perhaps an idea to be able to book treatments at the reception where there is someone...went there twice and couldn’t find anyone.
