« Dog friendly hotel in a good location »

Have stayed several times because the hotel accepts dogs and is a convenient location. Better than a Travelodge, but not quite a Premier Inn. Bar staff were were friendly, but the manager, reception and restaurant staff ignore you unless you make a point of saying or asking for something. I think they all just need some customer service training. Rooms, food and drink were all good for the price.

« Clean and well appointed en suite bedroom. Polite and efficient reception and house keeping staff. Very convenient location for Knebworth House. »

Prompt and friendly welcome by reception staff. Clean and comfortable bedroom with very efficient double glazing which almost entirely blocked out the traffic hum from the busy A road. Well maintained, safe outdoor space with small play area for grandchildren. Large indoor spaces to meet up with family and friends. Good service at dinner though restricted menu. Lovely staff at breakfast but too few of them to maintain demand due to large numbers descending en masse. Very obliging and helpful staff staff overall.

« Would have been higher if the lift and tbe phone in my room had been working! »

Staff were excellent as usual overall but my stay was spoilt as the lift was not working for most of my stay and I have difficulty managing stairs. On check in I was offered a ground floor room but no mention was made of tne possibly of the lift being out of action or I would have taken up the offer. Once I had made it to my room on the second evening I decided to take advantage of room service to avoid the stairs but the room phone was completely out of action so I had to visit the bar anyway. I did mention the phone being out of order to the bar staff but do not know if anything was done about it.

There were a couple of incidents that happened which could have been easily managed by someone who knew customer service. The night time reception staff were openly and clearly not trained to do the job they were required to do. I stayed here because the last time I stayed there was a good room service menu at night and I knew I would be getting back late but this was not available purely due to the night time reception staff not being adequately trained. There was also a mix up of rooms on my first night where I had only arrived and there was another family trying to get into my room because the reception staff had mixed up the rooms and written the wrong room on the card. Overall it was very poor service.

Bit annoyed I rang and asked for two sets of sheets of two children staying, booked as a room for 2 adults two children, arrived at 8.30pm wanting to put them to bed to find one so flexible bed for them! Over priced room service so didn't use it. Pillows hard but bed ok, good sized room and lovely shower

We couldn’t operate the door opening system or make the lights work. This had not been explained on arrival. Luckily a room cleaner was kind enough to help. At breakfast the water jug, bread, fried eggs and hash browns were not replenished though it was served till 11am.

« A great stay, friendly staff, very comfortable beds, lovely breakfast. »

A great stay, my only criticism is the staff in the restaurant were so busy after 8pm that service was a little slow. The food was great and the staff apologetic about having to wait to be served. Beds very comfortable, shower lovely, lighting very good especially the individual directional bed lights.

« Poor at Start but Improved »

The Check-In staff were rude, disrespectful and didn't do basics Never welcomed us and treated us with complete disregard Didn't check when we were leaving (Checked following day with other staff and Novotel had wrong date) Didn't take Credit Card for Incidentals (Ended up being embarrassed after ordering in bar and having no credit on room) Effectively called me a liar when I claimed I had ordered breakfast - when I proved it later with an email (from 4 months ago) she said OK but no apology or even acceptance she had done anything wrong When I made an official complaint the following morning (in writing) all issues were resolved but staff member in question never approached us with apology r even spoke to us again throughout whole stay Breakfast (Sunday Morning) was more reminiscent of a greasy spoon with no staff member talking to us, Cluttered tables, a unclean serving space and adequate food. Eating there on Sunday night the food was of a very poor quality and almost inedible (both myself and my wife left 80% of our meal). The breakfasts got better through the week and by Wednesday/Thursday, Jo made us feel very welcome with pots of tea, toast and condiments, whilst the food was of better quality and the serving are both clean and prepared (napkins around hot trays etc.)
