« Good except for mattress and pillows »

Staff at reception and in The Albion Room are all quite wonderful: personable, professional, courteous, helpful. The hotel's location was perfect for the purposes of my trip. The room was clean and functional, the bathroom perfectly fine. No bathrobe or slippers but that's ok for a short stay. At night the room was dark and quiet: good. However I did not get a good sleep either night I was there as a) the mattress was hard and lumpy, and b) the pillows were hard and bulky. For the 2nd night I asked for a blanket to replace the too warm duvet and a thin pillow, and both were provided. Alas, the smaller thinner pillow was also rock hard. If those elements were improved I would love to come back, but otherwise...

Staff always pleasant and a couple have great sense of humour which I enjoy. This hotel is the only place where I stay when in Ottawa on business due to its proximity to the highways. Stayed in renovated section, room 401. Nice décor but a little tight between foot of bed and desk. Problem with the chair at the desk in my room. The chair is spring-loaded and was trapped under the desk making it difficult to pull it out. Every time I pulled on the chair, I tipped the glass-topped desk, which I didn't want to break. You have to press down on the chair in order to place it back under the desk. Took a moment to figure this out. I ended up setting this chair elsewhere in the room.

This stay was awful!!! Our room was in a state of disrepair, the stagf failed to attend to our needs, the hallways were old, with lifting carpet which was a safety issue. I repeatedly attempted to deal with the manager Raman and she was insensitive to our needs. The front desk staff lacks training and customer service sensitivity. The staff at breakfast was unprofessional...awful!

« It was ok »

Service was good. We were upgraded to one of the recently renovated rooms on the seventh floor. We might have been the first people to even stay in the room. As we started looking around it we noticed that the drywall dust covered almost everything in the room. It needed a good cleaning.

« slanted floors! »

This is an email I sen right after my stay: Hi, I usually get an email from hotels I stay in to verify customer satisfaction. I didn't get one from you so I'm writing this email instead. It had been a while since I've stayed at the Ottawa Novotel but I have stayed there before and was pleased with everything. This time, (room 733) when I got to my room, I noticed very nice improvements, mainly the new carpet and great shower (loved the shower). However, it took me one minute to notice how slanted the floor was! Once in the "living room" part of the room, it is very clear that the floor is slanted towards the wall where the bed is. I even put a pen on the table and with a little nudge, it rolled off the table. Walking around the room on my phone made me a little dizzy even. I wen to my co-workers room to see if hers was the same (room 738) and it was! Her floor too was at an angle going down towards the wall where the bed is. I've stayed in many rooms and many hotels but never had I seen that! And I cannot believe that this is the first time you hear about this. Just go to one of those 2 rooms and if you don't notice it immediately, put a pen on the glass table and give it the smallest nudge and it will roll off (it will only roll in one directioin , obviously in the downward slope). Let's say that this was pretty disappointing. I just don't understand why no one fixed it when the rooms were renovated. JS L.

The hotel is very conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Ottawa. It is walking distance to the Parliament and to the Shaw Convention Centre. The hotel amenities are great. Extremely clean rooms and comfortable beds.

« the rooms were very small for a family of four. Parking was horrible. My car go damage due the tight parking spots. »

I was totally dissatisfied. Everything about the hotel was small. The parking was tight, the hallways were short from the ceiling and tight. The room were very small for a family of four. The washroom was very small. You hardly can put anything on the sink. I will never stay at your hotel again. It does not accommodate families.

« OK, but not as good as previous times, so I feel things have gone downhill. »

We had a problem. Twice we were sent to a room that hadn't been cleaned. The first tme, we offered to go grab a bite to eat and come back later - as there seemed to be no other rooms. After an hour we returned. We were given the keys and the room was still being cleaned! In fact the cleaner, was taking a break and watching TV I think and was very surprised to see us. The computer system had obvously let you down. We were given comp breakfasts, which was very nice. But it still leaves a bit of a ill feeling. So, although I have stayed here more than once before, I think I will look at other options next time.

There was a 100% failure of the digital room key system during my stay. I would like to congratulate the manager and staff for making every effort in ensuring customer satisfaction ... despite the fact that I was locked out of my room for over 3.5hrs.

« Nice and Clean Hotel »

At my arrival on May 14th, the hotel had an issue with their system and the guests could not enter their rooms. Perhaps it's time to have a contingency plan to avoid having guests wait several hours for their rooms. I could see that the staff was working very hard to get the system back up and the stress that they were in. Despite all of that, the staff was extremely patient and courteous to all the guests. so kudos to them.

Room was very clean and quiet and location was very convenient. Could use some additional drawer space in room, only two small drawers for 3 adults & one child. Also would be nice to have baskets or something in pool area to put clothing & possessions in. Room service food was very good and reasonably priced. Beds were very comfortable.

There were problems with the computer resulting in delayed access to the room and issues with access to the floor- via the elevator. These were resolved by the end of the evening.

« Just okay - nothing outstanding »

I stayed in two rooms, they are quite small and the amenities limited (no hand cream). The card key did not work on Monday evening and I was asked to wait outside my room until the technician came to reset the key. I was told I would wait 20 min. I ended up waiting almost 45 min and had to rush to my evening function which started at 6 pm. I called twice to the front desk to ask how much longer I had to wait and was told that the manager was coming up right away - that did not happen. The breakfast provided little value for cost. The cost for the second night was overpriced. The pool was small and overcrowded - certainly exceeded the number allowed on deck and in the hot tub. This was my second or third time staying at Novotel Ottawa - I don't think I would want to stay there again.
