I stayed four nights for work. Large rooms, comfortable bed, everything clean, good breakfast. Overall, I was satisfied of the experience. Very nice staff too.

I booked the room through RBC reward points. As soon as I hit confirm on the booking I realized I booked the wrong date. I called RBC rewards immediately. They contacted the hotel. The hotel changed the date but charged me an additional $135 t9 do so. Not very accommodating.

When I booked, I asked for late check out on the day I was departing. I was able to secure that for an extra $75, which was reasonable. but then I was billed twice for it - the first day of my stay when I was not checking out, and then the day of the checkout. I asked that it be corrected and received no correction of this billing error. In addition, the afternoon that I left was the power failure. I had to remain in my room to participate in a remote meeting and do a major presentation. There was no elevator and as a senior I had to walk up several floors to my room. There should have been a generator to power one elevator for the disabled and older seniors. It is unconscionable that there was no generator to maintain on elevator. What if there was a serious emergency for a guest? There was no offer to me as senior to provide assistance with my luggage at checkout - I had to walk down all the flights of stairs with my luggage. When I did enter my room for the afternoon meeting after walking up several flights of stairs, my key did not work or allow entry to the room. I was promised that it would. I was able to fins a maintenance person to allow me in. During the afternoon, I had no internet. I had to assume the cost on my data plan -less reliable as well for the meeting. My computer ran out of power as well and I could not recharge. The temperature in then room went up to 24.5 degrees as there was no A/C. And then as mentioned when I tried to check out and have the late departure fee waived, it was done, but the bill I received showed the 2 late departure fees and taxes, and I did not receive a corrected bill until I called the next day (today). Even as I write this I have not received a receipt that shows that I have fully paid. In addition, the sheets of the bed were not put on properly. there was no “top sheet’ under the quilt - it was covering a mattress cover. I checked this thoroughly. This is not hygienic and I slept under the quilt directly. I have stayed in Ottawa in hotels hundreds of times in my life and I NEVER complain. This hotel is the worst hotel I have stayed at in my whole life, and I will never book with the Novotel Ottawa again. I will advise the conference organizers of this and well as colleagues and friends. I understand the difficulties that this hotel had with a power failure. But you were not prepared and showed no adaptability - like offering help to those in need like seniors. And you still have not sent me a paid-in-full receipt -it’s more than 24 hours since I have checked out and the power failure is long over. I only received something because I called. This hotel is the worst amongst comparable hotels.
