« Little things could go a long way »

The location of this hotel is pretty great for getting around Toronto, and the lobby presents well enough. The staff were mostly friendly, and we found housekeeping to be especially nice. That all said, the rooms themselves were average at best, and the lack of attention to minor issues is what brings our review down to just two stars. There was a total of three burnt out light bulbs in our room - accounting probably for half of all of the lights. The handle to slide the curtains open was busted, and most annoyingly, the bathroom fan didn't work. These are mostly small issues that could have been dealt with if the hotel paid a little more attention to detail. Collectively, they gave the sense that the hotel just didn't care that much. We have been using Air BnB for the past several years, since we can't usually afford hotels. I was really looking forward to being back in a hotel, but ended missing the attention paid at most Air BnBs. We were there for three nights and contemplated complaining, seeing if we could be moved, etc. but we were there for work and mostly just wanted to relax upon returning to our room, so we ended up just shrugging it off. It's quite possible that if we had said something, the hotel would have responded really well, so I take some responsibility here. But the fact that it was in this state in the first place, and even after housekeeping came in during our stay, is disappointing. Little things can go a long way and I think this could be a perfectly nice hotel if they simply paid a little more attention to detail. It's possible too, that only our room had these issues, in which case I would give the hotel three stars. If you want a reasonably priced hotel in downtown Toronto, and are willing to do a little whining if need be, then this is a perfectly fine place to stay. If you want really careful attention to detail, or a more luxurious hotel experience, this probably isn't the spot for you.

Nice place. Clean. Good rates. Abysmal WiFi. 36k download. Haven’t seen anything this slow since 1996... the buffet breakfast is convenient and terribly overpriced. I tried to get dinner at 8:00 pm on Monday. Lights were on and no one was home. Front desk staff was helpful in concierge function.

« Disappointing ... Very »

Aside from the location our stay was disappointing. We chose Novotel because of location to ACC and hockey Hall of fame. The lobby was barren with only one staff at the check-in, who was on the phone when I arrived. Check-in process was easy but key did not work so needed to go get a new one. Frustrating because had to wait in line to do so. Room was fine but felt like a college dorm with no personality. Could not find any hotel/room info to peruse and website was not helpful. WiFi worked imtermidantly. I was most unsatisfied with the restaurant. It was not available at 11pm for a late night drink and snack despite what the website said. We missed the buffet breakfast but were told by front desk we could order a la carte. We arrived at 10am but told they were closed. They eventually allowed us to sit but said we could only order the deluxe breakfast @ 19.95 each. This was crazy considering we were 2 adults and 2 kids. We felt very uncomfortable. The waitress kept saying it's not our fault and that she would take it up with the front desk staff. It's clear that restaurant and hotel staff do not work together, and efforts by the hotel to make things simple (online check-in with less staff, specific meal times, impersonal rooms) make stays less welcoming and worry free.

« Great location, fantastic Employee engagement, value for the dollar »

Yvonne was awesome in helping me correct an error that I made on the online registration, she saved the day for me and I really appreciate her efforts! I forget the name of the lady that checked us in, she was super helpful as well. The location was perfect for going to dinner at Biffs and then a visit to the Bier Markt to see Team Canada win the gold. A perfect experience! The only thing that was a surprise was a cooler instead of a fridge.

The facilities were a great value. The ongoing 3 day battle with a youth hockey team (noise, disrespect, and lack of adult supervision) and 56K internet speeds detracted significantly from the experience. You need to do much better to keep up the Novotel image.

All the staff were extremely helpful, including the ones who cleaned our rooms who were very accommodating and those in the dining room who did everything possible to please us. Check-in experience was less than satisfactory. We arrived Novotel Toronto Center at around 2am on Dec 24th and we informed the check-in associate that we were traveling with our dog. He said it was not noted on our file, but the fact was that we called the reservation desk earlier on the 23rd, we were told that there was pet friendly room available and that the front desk staff will have us set up in a pet friendly room upon our arrival. The check in staff who was assisting us looked at my driver license and commented that we were traveling from Calgary, and that local Calgarian cannot be trusted? I was puzzled as I don't understand why he made such comment. So he elaborated that Calgarian likes to party? My replied was that's being stereotypical then he went on how he worked in Banff for many years and his experience with Calgarian. I truly don't understand why he has to make the comment that Calgarian cannot be trusted, even if it was a joke, I can assure you that it was not appreciated. Here we were traveling to Toronto for Christmas Holidays, our flight was already delayed for two hours, traveling with a 3.5 years and a 23 months old so last thing we need was an insensible comment at 2am when everyone is exhausted. We have travelled and stayed at many hotels under the Accor Hotel Group (Fairmont Banff Spring, Sofitel 16 Ponte Macau, Novotel North York, Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay, Ibis Hotel London Blackfrairs and Novotel Suites Paris Montreuil Vincennes) and have always been felt welcomed, appreciated until this latest experience with Novotel Toronto Center. I truly hope this is an isolated incident, though, front desk staff has the first interaction with customers and as I am sure you can appreciate that a positive first impression goes a long way, for both hotel and travellers alike.

It was Ok...the washroom was to noisy, it wasn't the toilet as I think in the beginning but the tub, I stayed 12 days and at end this intensified. Just a concern, the waste of water when flashing the toilet is considerable, should be the fast and quiet ones, old system to be change?? Maybe I stayed to many days...the breakfast was predictable and booooring...eggs, eggs and more eggs even if you requested away from the buffet.
