« Comfortable stay, spoilt by rude bar staff! »

We have stayed a few times recently as my son is having treatment at the UCLH so we have to come up monthly. In general we have enjoyed our stays and the rooms are always clean and comfortable. It was just spoilt on this occasion by the bar staff who were curt and quite rude. There was no greeting, just a lift of the head. I order a beer and some peanuts. The beer was a short measure and the peanuts half full. When politely asking about the peanuts and if that was all, the response was "yes, peanuts"! I was then presented with the card machine, although was holding cash in my hand, which seem to aggravate them even more!! I reluctantly sat down as it had been a long day. When I finished I took my glass and peanut pot back to the bar but did not even receive any kind of acknowledgement, no please, thank you or even a recognition that I existed. Perhaps the two on the bar that night, around 8pm should take your breakfast staffs example who are always very helpful and courteous.

This is very convenient , modern , budget hotel with friendly, efficient staff. It is far better than most of its well known rivals and has a bright , youthful atmosphere ,with good bedrooms .we appreciated the welcome drink but we did not appreciate being woken up in the early morning by staff having a coffee /cigarette break outside immediately below our window in an internal courtyard.

A busy hotel, good welcoming staff. *Breakfast manager *great and deserving of support and recognition for his efforts. Some breakfast staff obviously new and being trained. Breakfast arrangements muddled and possibly unhygienic (open uncovered display of Food). Breakfast items limited in choice No Tomato juice. Cheese tasted fine but in blocks requiring individual cutting and consequent queuing at point of collection. Bedroom floor (carpet between twin beds) had not been cleaned adequately before our arrival. Public areas very clean . Hope that this helps

The change to the reception area is a change for the worse. It results in no queuing system, guests milling around unsure who to speak to about check in or check out and no focal point for staff/guest interaction. In addition, the laptop with guest details on it was left open and unlocked on the desk for anyone to see which is a serious data protection issue. The carpet in the room was newly stained and there was no hand towel in the bathroom. The room itself on the 2nd day of our stay had still not been serviced at 14:30 and if we had not spoken to staff downstairs we are not entirely convinced that it would have been. As it was, the cups had just been rinsed but not replaced as they still had the residue of the previous night's drink at the bottom, meaning we again had to go downstairs to request fresh cups. The standard of the breakfasts has also declined since our first stay at this hotel several years ago, with little in the way of breakfast cereal. Having stayed at this hotel for a number of years we have noticed a marked decline in standards in terms of both cleanliness and service, which is a disappointing reflection on Accor. The staff that were available were as helpful as they could be but we get the impression they are stretched and the lack of a proper reception doesn't help them in their daily roles as the public face of the hotel.

Overall very good. However, the towels were not good. There were two larger towels, though not very large, which were very thin and not very absorbent, and no face/hand towel. I have not experienced this at this hotel before.

« Very slow and below-par service --- I hasten to add this is unusual but three aspects were well below standard »

Check-in - was at around 2230 on Sunday evening - no-one in reception to check-in, and of course with the new system no-one behind reception desk. At around 2250 gentlemen in black polo-shirt appeared and asked whether he could help, I stated I needed to check-in. Went to back room behind reception desk - at 2305 assistant in red polo-shirt appeared. Dealt with check-in very efficiently but over 30 minutes since my arrival at the hotel foyer. Breakfast - when I arrived at 0900 - orange juice was not available (empty / run-out), no egg (scrambled or poached), no grapefruit and no bacon. These things happen and it is par for the stay so I brought this to the attention of the assistant on duty but it took over 15 minutes for the eggs and bacon to arrive, the grapefruit appeared some 5 mins later, the orange juice was not replenished. Sunday lunch-time - arrived at bar around 1300 wanting to order soup and fruit salad. Was asked for order - it became clear that the server did not know how to operate the till as after about 10 minutes had to ask for assistance. Soup took 25 minutes to arrive - it was not busy, there was one person in front of me ordering only drinks and three others appeared at the bar in the 25 minute await. On their own I would not really batted an eye-lid - I am a frequent visitor to this Ibis but together suggested that there is a staffing issue. Either training is in sufficient to highlight importance of rapid action, particularly during breakfast and check-in etc. time, also while new members of staff need to be trained they need to be shown basics (e.g. how to use till, right from start). I am not a moaner by nature but I was very, very disappointed on this visit. When you pay £145 you expect better service. Normally Ibis does provide this.

We use this hotel regularly for various reasons and find it convenient and dependable. The one major annoyance is that there is no longer a conventional registration desk. I find the current system confusing, unclear and chaotic when several people arrive together.
