« Love this hotel »

I stay at this hotel several times each year taking a break before catching the ferry from Ouistreham. The staff are always welcoming and we always get a quiet room. Our favourite restaurant is just across the harbour - Le Carlotta and we love to visit here at the same time. Breakfast is great and the underground parking very useful.

Very friendly welcome at reception. Good (very) clean room with beautifully comfortable bed. Good facilities (especially liked the nice glass cups). Good breakfast: I was delighted by the low sugar / no chocolate muesli and my wife especially enjoyed the plain yoghurt and raspberry coulis. This was a return visit (previous visit April 2017) and it reinforced all the previous happy memories.

We had a lovely stay at the Mercure. Staff were friendly and kindly stored our luggage when we arrived early. The location is a big plus - everything is within walking distance. The room was comfortable as was the bed.

« Decent hotel in a good central position. »

Reception was excellent. Disappointment was that although we book a disabled room, whilst the bathroom had a wider door and the toilet had a rail, the shower was over the bath!, completely unusable for a disabled person. Also your web site doesn’t allow for booking disabled rooms and I had had to call them and hang on in a queue for 20 minutes to be answered. You really need to up your game in accommodating disabled people. You are much worse than other providers on this.

The hotel room was too hot, after one night I complained and was told I would need to move to another room as a block of rooms did not have ventilation capabilities. They moved me to another room and after a day of touring returned to another different room that was very hot. When I complained this time I was told non of the rooms had air-conditioning as the previous week customers complained of being too cold, and there was never a problem with a block of rooms, instead I was given a fan for the room. This is unacceptable

Always use your hotels but the breakfast experience spoiled it all if I say good morning to some one I expect the same not sneared at and made to feel we had come to the wrong hotel probably did after she realised we we in the right place she stormed off never to be seen again here beaver even upset other guests this was at 6.40 morning of our departure so we left upset with no breakfast

Very disappointing not receiving a response from the hotel requesting information on local transportation options for seeing the Normandy area. I sent an email directly to the hotel 2 weeks prior to my arrival. Upon checking in, the front desk staff was not very friendly. Either they don't like their job or Accor needs to train their employees on hotel hospitality!!

Had a pleasant stay in Caen. Hotel amenities were not up to the standard of this type of hotel and I stayed in many Mercure and Novotel hotels as I am a holder of an Accor hotel membership card. The wi-fi in the hotel did not work from Friday to Sunday inclusively. I made the comment to the front desk and was reassured that they were working on it. I overheard other patrons inquiring too about this situation. One of the reading lamps next to the bed was missing a light bulb. I mentioned it too to the reception and was told that they did not have any with them and they did not have technical services over the weekend (to replace a light bulb !!??) to assist. I was asked if this was critical for my stay, what a strange question without an ounce of excuse offered. In fact, the same reply about the faulty wifi to patrons in the hotel was most likely a lie so staff would not have to offer excuses for this situation. Lastly, the shower was leaking and we ended up with water on the floor, so much for quality control in the rooms, there is a need for better technical team in this hotel. So, overall, no excuses, no compensation for all these issues, this is a strange way to make a member feel welcomed in the hotel.

Small but comfortable room. Easy secure parking. Good location next to the harbour. Breakfast was extra cost. Breakfast very good - totally self service. Finished way too early - another hour for breakfast would be good especially for those of us from UK who find the 'lost hour' due to European time a bit much to cope with first thing in the morning! Important: The coffee is absolutely dreadful. It's difficult enough to get decent coffee anywhere in France outside Paris but this automated muck was just chicory essence. How we longed for a great cup of real coffee in the morning. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

room 146 the shower bracket was broken,reported it/nothing happened.The formica surfaces were badly chipped both in bedroom and bathroom.the skirting in bathroom was rotten from water damage.light bulb missing in table lamp.No WiFi on arrival Thursday,not repaired until following Monday. No smoke alarms in room.

Are not the days of powdered quills of coffee over? I understand that privelege rooms have Nespresso machines, why not all rooms? Other hotels at this price point (four star) have this facility Apart from this, the hotel was excellent Out of interest,I would rather have Nespresso coffee rather than my free drink!

We arrived had a mix up with booking but was all sorted quickly. The reception staff were ver helpful. The car park was also very helpful just near by, you can park on the street if you can find a spot. Also lift from car park went straight into hotel. Good when you have luggage. Breakfast was ok, although the water on the machin for boiled eggs was not hot at all until I found how to turn up. Usual French style buffet breakfast.

Everything from perfect location to check-in, parking facility, information about the city, maps, cleanliness of rooms, comfortable beds, wi-fi, breakfast buffet, etc. was excellent. Best location due to nice harbor, GREAT restaurants, safety, Sunday market. THIS is the place to stay in Caen.

Entered the parking directly behind the hotel without problem, and was received by the receptionist with my key package ready (having checked in on-line before leaving). The suite was extremely clean and well set up with towels, linen, etc., and was maintained that way each day by the Housekeepers. Breakfast was excellent: wide selection of cereals, breads, pastries, fresh fruit and fruit juice, yoghurt, tea or coffee, and a daily selection of hot dishes. The breakfast room is bright and inviting. There is no restaurant, although the hotel appears to cater for groups' dinners, which was the case throughout our stay. The position of the hotel is conveniently positioned on the Bassin of the Port both for restaurants and tourist attractions. We ate out each night during our week there and never walked more than 200 metres to each restaurant. Tourist attractions are easily reached by bus or on foot from Place Courtonne in front of the hotel (don't overlook the electric bus which circles the town each day except Sunday and is free!) It was a pity that on our last full day the electronic lock on the room door failed, and, as it was a Sunday, there was not a technical support person available to sort it out. Consequently, we had to be let into our room each time that day after we had left it, and the morning of our departure, by a member of staff using the pass key!!
