We arrived 15 minutes prior to check-in time and were told to wait and then a line formed after we were told to wait and we were at the back of the line even though we arrived first and the rules were so ridged we could not check-in 15 minutes early.

« Great hotel »

We arrived late on Monday night and we were able to get lovely food and drinks in the hotel. The staff at reception and in the restaurant are lovely, approachable, and friendly and more than willing to help. Bedroom and bathroom spacious and immaculate. Great breakfast and added bonus of a pool. Bus stop outside the door.

« Overall we had a good experience »

Majority of things were great. Though we kept being given everything in twos but there were 3 of us staying in a triple room. We also requested one lamp to be fitted with a light bulb which hasn't been done throughout our stay. It made a fair amount of noise and we were hoping fitting a new light bulb would stop it. The staff were friendly.

Not so bad but not so good. Room is a bit old and small even it was Novotel brand also Parking is too small. We could not use (was refused) drink vouchers at the bar since there are some event was taking a place and then why gave us voucher???? So strange.

« Didn't feel like staying in a 4-star hotel as other 4-star hotels. »

Stayed 9 nights but every night when we were back, we must call the Front Desk for items that were not replenished by the housekeeping such as shower gel, shampoo, Kleenex, plastic cups, bathing robe, bathing mat, etc. Personnel at the front desk were not very friendly and helpful when I asked for some logistic information except two ladies (one was tall with brown curly hair and she always wore the yellow scarf and she was off on August 27 and 28) while the other lady has many tattoos on her right lower arm, my compliments to these two ladies' enthusiasm in helping me with all information I needed. The rest of the team, especially was the one with blonde hair and wore glasses was not ready to help. She always asked me to google the information by myself and handed me the blank sheets on two separate days that did not have the information I needed but the ads on the internet. When there was only one plastic cup in the room when we were back to the room, we called the front desk and the front desk personnel asked us to talk to the restaurant direct which was weird to me, though she had transferred the line sometime. As it was after 23:35, the lady at restaurant said the restaurant was close and there were no staff to accommodate room service so I had to call again the next morning when their staff were on duty. Then, I told her this was not a request for room service, etc. Could you feel how much energy I needed to spend each night just for asking for the items that the housekeeping should replenish. On the second night, I told the front desk that we need 2 tubes of shampoo and 2 tubes of shower gel everyday as we felt embarrassed to share 1 tube of shampoo and shower gel. Then, she said she would put a remark in the system and had herself brought us the second tube of shampoo and shower gel. The following late night when we came back, it was also only one shampoo and one shower gel. I called the front desk. The lady said if we needed additional shower gel and shampoo, we must come to get them by ourselves. Was it really extra tubes? We were paying the rental for two people and we were not asking for 3 tubes of shampoo and shower gel. We only need 2 shampoo and 2 shower gel every night. Did we need any special approval from the hotel's management so I didn't need to beg and argue for this small thing almost every night? Even if the management's approval was needed, the front desk staff who said she woild make a remark to the system should get the approval but not me. The lady who needed to mark the room numbers of guests who went to the restaurant for breakfast always wore an unfriendly face and tone. This was not a workers' canteen but the way she made people sat at whichever table that she assigned was extremely rude. If you pretended to be a guest to have a breakfast there, you should be able to know how she behaved and talked. She sounded like a boss of a small restaurant and you coild choose to sit down at the table she assigned you or leave. A very disappointing experience during my past five years for staying at the accor hotels group.

I have enjoyed the stay , not the best one since the toilet are had some defects, missing soap, shower gel on daily basis ... a part from that, great atmosphere, grand room, great entertainment for my 4 years old Daughter

I stayed in other Novotels and again it hasn´t disappointed me. Clean room, cleaning servis every day (including weekend), friendly staff, quiet area. Hotel is located only 10 min. from Metro (10 min. to the center, direct metro to the airport). What to complain is WiFi - from 6 days it didn´t work 4 days. We get up at 6 a.m. and this time cold water was very hot and it was almost impossible to wash. In the afternoon it was OK. In collation with other Novotels, we didn´t get ceramic or glass cups for tee (coffee), only paper cups. We expected there will be cutlery, but were not!! Air conditioner was too noisy, we had to switch it off for night.

« Okay ... though those little things that matter and not always right »

WiFi - I don't like the system, when wifi switches off when not used (those who use iMessage or WhatsApp know why I complain). Maintenance always forgot to add new coffee, cups, shower gel etc. Instead changed towels everyday, even if not asked for (I'm ecological/ green :)). Parking - we need to pay each day separately - troublesome itself, the more that we had to queue !! each time instead of paying once

FINAL REVIEW We experienced an enjoyable trip to Lisbon but it was grossly tainted by our unexpected evening dining experience(s) provided by Novotel, Lisbon. We were very, very, disappointed in the evening dining arrangements. Having being out sightseeing all day in Lisbon on our third day, we returned to the hotel looking forward to a lovely meal in the TEJO buffet restaurant which had been open for our first 2 nights, providing an excellent standard and choice of food. However, we were surprised and bewildered to find it closed with no explanation or warning. Indeed, this was to be the case for the remainder of our stay. The A BICICLETA restaurant proved to be a poor substitute in that having a much smaller seating capacity it was difficult to book a table and we had to dine much later than we wanted with a restricted choice of menu. It is worth noting that on our arrival the hotel reception staff referred to the “A BICICLETA “ restaurant as being “a la carte”. For an “a la carte” restaurant it left a lot to be desired. The service was chaotic, lacked organisation and frankly just wasn’t good enough. In addition, the continuous screening of live football matches on large screens was to say the least very distracting.

We were delighted with our stay at the Novotel Lisboa. We were warmly welcomed, our room was excellent, the beds were comfortable, the breakfasts were wonderful, the staff were helpful when we needed help, we enjoyed the pool facilities, it was ideally placed to be outside the busiest areas but with easy access to the city centre by train in just a few minutes - overall we were very happy indeed. When we next visit Lisbon - and we loved the city and certainly intend to come back - this hotel will be our first choice. Just one small thing - we would have really appreciated a little help ordering a taxi to take us away at the very end of our stay. It's our fault for not learning enough Portuguese words before our visit to do it ourselves - we will fix this for next time - and maybe it is Novotel policy, I don't know, because other guests told us they had the same problem. But if somebody could have helped us for one minute with that, we'd have been really grateful. However, that really was the only problem we experienced and it didn't spoil our visit at all. We would be very happy to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Lisbon.
