« The staff was great - the wheelchair room barely satisfactory for persons with severely impaired mobility »

We stayed in the wheelchair-room, so everything written is directly related to this fact - bathroom is great and well designed for wheelchair users (even though the door has no lock - so better communicate about bathroom use), even a shower chair was provided! - air conditioning worked great - the room was very noisy (just above a very busy major road with inadequate sound insulation of the windows and just opposite the elevator) - the room was tiny (or alternatively severely over-furnished) complicating the entire stay - to improve quality of stay for disabled guests it would be helpful if: - the sofa were removed so a wheelchair can be placed next to the bed and guests don't have to move furniture (the sofa is just in the way and not usable in the least - use an armchair or something instead if you totally must have some comfy-seating arrangement) - the carpet under the bed were to be removed (it makes for a "step" and makes in difficult to manoeuvre (i.e. turn around) and impossible to safely transfer from wheelchair to bed because the wheelchair being half on and half off the carpet doesn't have a firm hold) - the stay in the room for two persons is only possible if the non-wheelchair bound person is very mobile indeed because there is barely room (two hand width) to move next to the bed on the "able persons side" - there are only two places with sufficient space to turn in the wheelchair (in the bathroom and half on and half off the carpet (the carpet is about half an inch high) between bed, desk and sofa) - if you have ever travelled on a ferry in a "disabled cabin" expect less room and less space in these hotel rooms - while the bed is of an adequate size for a normal couple it is not adequate for a couple with one person with limited mobility in e.g. turning around - the room is accessible only with manual wheelchairs - the "carpet edge" makes the room potentially problematic to use for people who can walk but only with difficulty as it is easy to stumble on that edge - there is a "peep hole" in the door on seating height allowing wheelchair users to look out at least in theory Due to no fault of the hotel whatsoever the ignorance of people makes finding an available "disabled parking spaces" literally impossible (despite there being six of them!) as they are generally fully occupied with non-eligible vehicles (i.e. no "blue badge"/"Behindertenparkausweis" anywhere in sight). Parking has to be paid and is not included in the hotel price (around 9 Euros/ day). We were able to park on a designated space only once when returning to the hotel close to midnight. The other times we had to use a "normal" (and thus narrow) parking space while not a single car with a displayed blue badge was occupying the designated spots. I asked the booking agent a lot of questions about the room layout and she was unable to answer most of our questions as she had insufficient information. Had the booking agent provided me with adequate and complete information about the size of the room, the layout, the size of the bed, the fact that there is a carpet on the floor and the fact that a wheelchair cannot be placed next to the bed without moving furniture around I would have been able to decide that this room is not a good option for our situation. Despite all this we were satisfied as much as was possible under the circumstances , primarily due to the extremely friendly and helpful staff.

« Hotel suffers from worst elevator service, renovations and no air conditioning. »

Elevator situation is worst I've encountered in years of travelling at least once a month. Single lift that is slow and small create heavy traffic in the morning. Construction workers have also made it ugly, and they also occupy the car during busy times. But your renovations should have really included a big upgrades to the elevator. No AC in the rooms during warm summer days is unpleasant, but glad a fan was provided. Otherwise the room and breakfast were very good.

« nice hotel, but needs some detailing »

The overall experience was alright. Breakfast was good and in general the rooms were nice. Our room wasn't really clean. Tissue on the floor and a hair on the shampoo bottle in the bathroom. The waterheater in de kids room (321) was not working. I have mentioned this the first night at the reception. The heater was not repaired during our stay. The rooms were also dusty to the renovation what happend on the same floor. Also the fire alarm accidently went off on the thursday morning. I have had three ear operation so the load noise wasn't very pleasant. The kids loved the pool and we liked the central location of the hotel as well.

« not pleasant journey thru Mercure Duisburg Hotel »

Reservation has been done thru internet where nothing was mentionned ! When we arrived at the hotel we felt that the temperature within reception was really to warm !! (was very hot outside August 7th2018) Then in the room air conditioning was out of order and Hotel receptionist told us this was due to the renovation within floors !! Which was true because we met with more workers using same commodities than customers !! I mean the lift , breakfast for coffee etc...Therefore in addition to the dusty conditions nothing has been done to get better feeling (such as cold drinks or even price discount).It is not normal at this level of type of Hotel (I've choosen Mercure brand by reputation) nothing is done to warn potential customers that the hotel will be in maintenance for a certain period !!

There is quite some room for improvement here: many other Mercure hotels do a better job in the small details... To start with: giving me a room in a corridor that has renovation works ongoing in other rooms, is unforgivable - being rudable awakened by noise of hammers, shouting, drilling, even at "only" 8:00am, is NOT done. There is no ventilation nor heating nor airco in the room, while the room (only in May) was already quite hot. And the wifi DOESN'T work! It has worked for me at many other Mercure hotels, but here no connection possible... The mini-bar is empty, and there are not even complimentary bottles of water??? I have a one-person booking, but a two-person bed, so the bed is made... for one person only, with only one pillow, and a one-person blanket covering only half of the bed????? And then, being a gold member, I should get a free upgrade (subject to availability) - but I only receive a welcome note suggesting "if you are interested in an upgrade, please enquire with us"... How can enquire about this after checking in, when I get the note only in my room????? The only positive point for me was the breakfast buffet, which was well taken care of and of good quality. Staff at the desk was also friendly and efficient.

We where two people booking to rooms and got it confirmed, but up on arriving 19:00 pm did we learn that the rooms where not available anymore and we where put into one room, even a smokers room, this was not satisfactory, specially not arriving only at 19:00. We where on a business trip, hence meetings can take time and we cannot think about have the hotel to keep a confirmed reservation. Not a good service

« Just enough for a one night... »

Not the best hotel I had. The swimming pool was closed, so no possibility to have wellness time. The room was clean but bathroom too old and not really beautiful. The breakfast was not bad but can be better, specially the service. Tables were not cleaned. Eggs were not so good. Too much people at the same time. Lot of noise, we can ear people from other rooms. The best thing about our experience was the fact that it was during the first weekend of the Christmas market in Duisbourg. The restaurant of the hotel was not really interesting and the menu really poor.
