The rooms where horrible ! the carpet was disgusting with dirt stains everywhere (I have pictures if you want). The bathroom was repulsive with mold between the tiles (also pictures available if you want). The arrival at the hotel to unload was inpossible because both days (arrival and departure) they allowed a hudge bus to be parked in front of the hotel which meant we were unable to drive to the hotel entrance and had to unpack in the car in the rain at the street. You should have these busses park elswhere once they offload there passengers. To be honest we booked two nights, but when I entered the hall of our rooms I immidiatly decided to cancel the second night. I have been travelling my whole live across the globe and worked and lived abroad, but this was the worst room ever. How can you have pride in your work if the maintenance and cleaning is so below standard. The hotel is now so out of date, it needs servious revamp,but I guess It will become an ibis at some point. The location is very good so I guess it makes up for the old decor. The breakfast was so ridiculous. Served from 7am till 10am. We got there on a Saturday 9 am and there was almost nothing left. The place was totally understaffed and the staff that were there did not seem to realise that there was no croissants, bread, bacon, eggs scramble eggs,juice,pancakes and milk but there was coffee. When one asks the staff for a top up. You get told it will be 15 minutes. By 15 minutes there a long queue for every thing. So not a good way to start a holiday.

Comfortable stay, convenient underground parking, but common areas not properly cleaned, smelly bathroom drains, poor attention to guests

First, the positive aspects: 1) Convenient location 2) Parking directly beneath the hotel 3) Comfortable room 4) Tasty buffet breakfast. 5) This hotel has a heated pool, and this may in fact be the lone pool in Metz. There are also tables set around the pool, so guests can opt to dine outside. There is a Foosball table in an area close to the pool. 6) There is a small library of children's books and a play area for kids, including a Kinect for adults and teenagers alike. 7) Welcome drinks were provided for all 3 of us. This is noteworthy as ibis hotels in France will often only give one welcome drink, and I often have to argue with the receptionist to provide at least 2 welcome drinks even when I checked in with my wife and daughter. 8) The air-conditioning was surprisingly cold and powerful. I often had to turn it off from time to time as it ended up becoming too cold, particularly as the vent was directed towards the bed. 9) A key card is not required for the air-conditioning and lights to function. Now for the negative aspects: 1) All the positive aspects described above are the reason why the hotel is classified as a 4-star hotel. The hotel, however, is very old, and is overdue for a renovation. The building and the Saint-Jacques mall are reminiscent of the 80s, and there doesn't seem to have been any major renovation since then, except for the flat-screen TVs and digital toys in the kids' area. 2) The hotel is poorly cleaned. It is apparent that the cleaning staff just do what they're told - to clean the rooms, change the sheets, etc. If the staff just looked up towards the ceiling in the corridor, or even by the door in the dining area leading to the pool, they would have seen obvious cobwebs. If you sit at the table by this door and face the wall, you cannot help but stare at the cobwebs. 3) There was an unpleasant smell of sewage wafting from the bathroom sink drain and even around the minibar/water kettle corner. I didn't want to bother requesting a room transfer as sewage issues are likely to affect most if not all rooms, with the same piping throughout the hotel. 4) The hotel is not responsive to emails. I sent three emails regarding my room preferences prior to my arrival, from as early as 3 days prior to the morning before my arrival, before I received an acknowledgement. I also pointed out in my booking and in my 3 emails that both my daughter and I would be celebrating our birthdays. I even mentioned my daughter's birthday upon check-in, but nothing was provided in the room, not even a card. This is poor attention to detail. I recall that the Novotel Suites in Malaga, Spain thoughtfully prepared a surprise for my wife's birthday, consisting of a small sweet treat and a foam Happy Birthday sign. I also noted that when I requested for coloring materials for my daughter, I was provided with a handy Novotel coloring kit. The hotel should provide this automatically upon check-in upon seeing that the guest has a child. This being said, however, the hotel did take my room preferences into account. 5) Despite being a 4-star hotel, Novotel insists on using the extremely cheap plastic glasses of its ibis sibling. These glasses are extremely brittle, such that the slightest pressure results in the glasses cracking. These are also dangerous to kids as the cups can crack and scratch their mouths and cheeks. Moreover, a water kettle is provided but no glass cups are provided for coffee or tea. I can't understand how guests are expected to drink hot drinks in these brittle plastic cups. I therefore always brought up cups and teaspoons to the room. Having seen these glass cups in the room, the cleaning staff should have at least replaced them with clean ones. Instead, I brought up glass cups to my room every day during our stay. The Novotel Suites in Malaga, Spain provided proper coffee/tea cups. 6) Access to hotel from parking garage. As noted above, there is a garage conveniently located directly beneath the hotel. Upon arriving, however, it is almost impossible to find the lift which goes directly to the hotel lobby. I sent numerous emails to ask about the lift, but was only told that any of the various lifts A, B, C and D can be taken to floor 0 which lead to a courtyard in front of the hotel. Inexplicably, however, there is no slope right in front of the hotel for luggage, so you will still have to navigate 2-3 steps, which is quite inconvenient when arriving with heavy luggage. After checking in, I then took the lift from the hotel lobby down to the parking, so I could then transfer my car to be as close as possible to the lift leading directly to the hotel lobby. This is the only way to avoid the steps in front of the hotel entrance. The hotel's lift is also very small and moves jarringly, such that you worry that you will get stuck at some point. Indeed, it was temporarily out of order in the evening of our first night, but fortunately it was running again the following morning. The other lifts are also quite small, and as these lifts service the mall, you will often have to wait for some time if you have a lot of luggage in order to get a vacant lift. Even knowing in advance that I had to go to "niveau jaune", and having gotten as precise instructions as possible from the hotel before arriving, the layout of the parking is very confusing, as you're presented with multiple routes after going through the security barrier. 7) The staff were generally not friendly. They are at best perfunctory in their dealings with guests. Receptionists and cleaning staff do not routinely greet guests. 8) The quality of the hotel's WIFI was very poor. I could not surf on my iPad and ended up using my mobile internet in order to browse sites and watch streaming videos. 9) The inclusion of a pool in the hotel, while welcome, appears to have been forced. There are no changing rooms by the pool. Guests have to awkwardly trudge back to their rooms in trunks/bathing suits wrapped with a towel in order to change and bathe. 10) The hotel does not bother updating the information posted in the room. I was advised that breakfast was until 10 a.m. every day, but the sign in the room (316) indicated breakfast till 9:30 a.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends. This likely confuses many guests and leads a number of them to miss the breakfast they paid for. All in all, I would not recommend this hotel if there were an alternative hotel with the same comfort level, location, parking availability and price range. Overall my family and I had a comfortable stay but the hotel really needs to undergo a renovation and improve its management.

The swimming bool was booked for a private pool party. It would have been fair to advise it on the website or at the reservation as we choose this hotel specially for the swimming pool. We needed to ask 5 times to get the late check out (3PM) which is one of the advantages for the gold membership. We did not get any "attention personnalisée" regarding the fidelity program.

Wen we arrived, we had No Welcome feeling. The receptionist was not looping at us and only loonde her computer. When we left the hotel the same thing. A client before us had a complaint and she had No empathy. She ddidn’t even asked us we had a Good stay. Ok for a weekend trip, very friendly staff, room was ok, not too load. BUT And this is the reason because i can only say, "It's ok just for a weekend", I was thinking they were joking with me, as I saw the lavatory. I was searching for the adult one. The lavatory is for little children, so low that you have your head between your knees. A really small and low one. That's really a no go.
