The reception staff is nice, welcoming, and very courteous. The rooms are really small and the bathrooms old. The breakfast buffet is nice, lots of choices, but there is clearly a staff problem. No one is smiling, when you ask for something it seems like you are disturbing them. One of them was even criticizing a guests out loud. The breakfast staff does not the meet the Sofitel standards or even the basic service industry standards.

« Turned a mistake into a great experience! »

An initial error by the hotel saw us without the second bed made for the kids until 1AM on our first night. After speaking with the manager Pierre the next day, he did everything possible to ensure our stay was enjoyable and memorable, including a room upgrade for us and our family staying next door and some complimentary food and drinks at the bar. Pierre was able to turn around an unpleasant initial experience into something our family will remember for a long time to come!

I booked a superior room for a week end at the Sofitel because I wanted to enjoy a very relaxing week end in a high quality hotel. The Sofitel Strasbourg has 5 stars, i booked 2 nights, for 240 euros in average each night, without counting the breakfast (that would have cost 34 euros per person per day more). At this price, that was much higher than most hotels i ve checked in Strasbourg, i was confortable that everything would be perfect. But i was quite disappointed. The room i was in had quite an old fashioned style. It was on the third floor, giving to the inside part of the hotel but also to the outside of the hotel that is as old fashioned as the room i was in. Nothing charming, nothing precious, nothing luxury. I walked in the hotel to see the different services. Same impression. Conference room from the 80's, old style hairdresser. No swimming pool. The price is from the 21th century but the hotel stayed 30 years before. I used the room service twice to order a dinner. The second time, there was a mistake in the order. It took them 30 minutes to bring back the second correct dish while the first one was waiting cold in my bedroom. Just totally unacceptable for a 5 stars hotel. No compensation offered, just an apology. I booked a boat tour at the concierge but the person booked one for me and did not include my 2 years daughter which caused problem when i arrived at the boat. Her seat was free but she had to be included. A minor issue but that is to me unacceptable for a 5 stars hotel. Other issue: i was in a connected room with a family with 3 kids that was shouting like crazy in the hallway at midnight. I had to go out of my room to tell them to be quiet. There are some rules that need to be addressed with all the clients, whatever their country when they enter a five stars hotel ! Also, the cleaning of the room : my daughter has put some little peace of bread under the desk one morning. When i went back in the room in the afternoon after the cleaning, the peaces were still under the desk. Last but not least, at the check out, there was a mistake in the invoices. I was charges for bar fees while i did not get to the bar. Could that i checked the invoice before paying. I expect such hotel to offer an unforgettable experience to theirs clients. If it is to get this level of room and service, i can book in a 3 stars hotel for much cheaper. The only nice part was the personnel that is very friendly and nice but I did not pay this price to meet nice people only.

Our hotel is the first Sofitel in the world, built in 1964. We therefore acknowledge that some changes have always to be done, in order to guarantee our guests the best comfort. The rooms’ refurbishment is one of our priorities. Regarding your room’s neighborhood, do not hesitate in this case to call the reception so that measures can be taken to prevent such an unpleasant situation, even if, as clients of a 5-stars hotel, they have to respect the others. It is embarrassing that the little pieces of bread under the desk had not been cleaned. I have personally informed our Housekeeping Director, she issues a reminder to her teams. She joins me to present you our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you have faced. I am sorry to discover that your room service order was a deception. I have alerted our Food & Beverage Director about it, so adequate measures to prevent such regrettable situation from happening again can be taken. I am also sorry to read that your experience at the reception desk did not meet you expectations, especially our concierge service, and the false invoices in your billing. I mentioned it directly to our Front of the House Director who joins me to present you our most sincere apologies regarding this situation, which is not meeting our usual quality of service. One always gets good service, friendly staff and efficient rooms at Sofitel. The main negative feature at the Grand Ile was the small bahroom with small shelves to store your equipment.

We very welcomed warmly by an attentive and accomodating staff. The little details in the room were nice, such as Hermes amenities, great bed, toys and cookies for the children. But the room was small and worn out. The bathroom was in no way charming and the room felt small for a junior suite. At this price, we expect better.

This was one of many stays at this hotel and as usual was very good. The hotel could, perhaps, do with a refresh. The bathroom layout in room 305 was odd with the toilet very cramped (I am not a large person) A simple and obvious solution would be to turn it through 90 degrees! Never had this problem in any of the other rooms.

I have experienced real luxury in the lovely city Amsterdam

Overall a positive experience. The room had a large bathtub, safe, slippers, a water boiler, good WiFi and minibar. My (Luxury) room offered a pleasant view over the square and was really quiet. I found the parking charge too high. You can park your car at a nearby public garage for little over half that charge.

However, I am sorry to see that your journey was not fully satisfying regarding the parking charge. For your information, this charge includes a free valet service, which is not the case for the public garage nearby. I hope this detail will not prevent you from coming back for your next stay in Strasbourg.
