« enjoying the weekend at Breda at Novotel »

Reception was correct and friendly. The rooms were large enough to stay with 2 adults and 1 child. The quality of the matrass and bed was very good and everybody had a nice sleep, as no disturbing noise was noticed during the night. The bathroom was a bit small for 3 persons. Dinner at the restaurant was basic and the steak was not great related to quality. The restaurant is situated in the lobby of the hotel but the temperature is warm and the environment is not disturbing. The choice at the breakfast was more than sufficient. The whole staff was very friendly and the hotel is for us suitable for kids.

« Very unpleasant stay »

First (and probably last) time I stayed at this hotel. I travel often to Breda for business and I reserved at this hotel as my usual hotels were booked. Everything about my stay was bad: from dinner to lodging. Dinner service was slow and messy: - The waitress was not properly informed in spite of the very small menu; in her defense it was her first day, however even the other staff members seemed to be unaware as they had to go and check with the chef almost at every question; - My main order wrong so I had to watch my colleague eat through his while I waited for my order. Plus the food was absolutely mediocre. - Staff were nice and offered to make it up to us with a free drink, which we refused. Whilst I appreciated the gesture I was honestly done for the evening and just wanted to retire to my room. However the staff were not able to recognize that and ended up bringing us a treat anyway (a free dessert instead of the drink). A nice gesture but unnecessary and uncalled for, again I would have rather not had to prolong our dinner experience. Then we proceeded to pay and more issues came up when I asked to put the dinner on my room: the waitress was embarrassed and started blathering about my room not having a credit card associated with it, so after making me repeat my room number and surname 3 times in front of several other guests (no concept of privacy??), I gave up and asked to pay right away with the same credit card that I had previously given to reception. Later I was woken up by a stranger calling my room (around 11pm) and claiming that I had checked-in to “her room”, as if the choice of the room had been mine?? She soon realized I had nothing to do with this inconvenience and that it was obviously a mistake of the check-in desk that gave her room away, so after asking me to confirm my surname on the phone to the receptionist (can you believe that?) they both eventually left my alone. When I thought I had seen it all I started smelling cigarette smoke in the room, which I soon realized was coming through the air vent. I opened the window and realized that also the outdoor smoking area was almost under my window. Luckily it was cold enough so that most smokers retired inside after some time, so that I could leave the window open and breathe some fresh air. However I ended up waking up to a freezing room in the morning. Luckily I had not booked a breakfast, so I left early and happily first thing in the morning... and hopefully that is the last time I will see the hotel!

Novotel Breda felt more as a business hotel then a place for couples on a romantic weekend. We experienced the atmosphere as a little cold, not very cosy or romantic.

« Great - highly recommended! »

Impressed with the hotel and location. We were going to arrive late however due to heavy traffic we were actually arriving after the reception was going to be closed. A quick phone call and we were assured that this was not a problem and 'just to ring the bell'. This is what I call customer service! Going beyond the call of duty. I know hotels that would have charged for doing this. My son was very impressed with the breakfast and enjoyed the mix of English and continental breakfast being served.

Very pleasant indeed. The beds, with the new mattresses, are the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Restaurant is nice and the foyer is a very nice place to be in - I spent all morning and early afternoon there reading and drinking coffee, which is exactly what I needed. Minor quibble/recommendations would be that room-service menu is not very extensive - would have been nice to have burgers, club sandwiches, etc. Overall, was very pleasantly surprised. Would stay again.

Overall it was good , but for my three days of stay there was no toaster available for breakfast. I was told by the chef the toaster had broken down and is out for repairs. I had to eat raw bread without toasting . I am a bit surprised why such a big hotel chain could not just buy a new toaster.

The room is too expensive for the cost. Restaurant is ok, but I would suggest plates more suitable for kids, no need to serve their food on fancy plates like that for their parents. Employees were very helpful.
