« Nice hotel but some improvements needed »

The rooms and the decor of the hotel were good, as expected, however some small details let the hotel down. There were lots of scuff marks on the walls of my room and also a questionable stain on the duvet. This was replaced promptly once raised with hotel staff. The service at my evening meal was good and staff were friendly however it was clear they were understaffed with staff literally running around the restaurant.

Staff were extremely accommodating, food pretty good, room very good. Just a bit miffed the dog charge of £12 pn was in my view a little excessive. At £36 for the three nights, it took a little off the edge of the stay. Had we not been attending a reunion with friends, this charge could have been a deal breaker. As it was the stay was great. Thanks to all involved.

« Disappointing start »

Upon arrival, a male member of staff was with a trainee female behind reception (approx. 9pm). The trainee was wonderfully polite and helpful, however the person training her came across and cold and rude. Normally when I stay in this hotel I receive a drinks voucher due to my accor membership. I questioned this as I did not receive one, and the trainee checked with the male member of staff. He point blank said no, and questioned whether I was even a member, and asked to see my membership card. I told him that I had never been provided a card, and that the membership details are presented to me when I book - this has been the case for this hotel before, and also the one I have stayed at, at Wetherby. He was so rude and dismissive, and clearly did not believe I was a member. This was a rude start to my stay, but despite that everything else was fine.

Front of house service for food and beverage was very poor, I waited at the bar with no one behind it for nearly 5mins until I asked the the very helpful receptionist to find someone. Once served the barman disappeared once again and not to reappear until I asked the receptionist again for another drink. I later that evening tried to call for room service after the third attempt of calling down and no answer on the end of the phone I got dressed and went down stairs to order food. No one was bothered I had tried to call down. I ordered Caesar salad with no anchovy’s and chunky chips to be sent up to my room 450. Food arrived chicken was less than warm and to my dismay anchovy’s were on the salad. I tried to call down and yet again no answer at this point I gave up. I removed anchovy’s from salad but as I am sure your aware the taste has already contaminated the rest of the salad. The chips delivered were not chunky they were fries and all that was said when delivered following me questioning the chips was I think we have run out. I stay in Novotel Hotels frequently and was very disappointed with the F&B service. I attempted breakfast, I am fully aware that it is a self service breakfast that is not my issue. The issue is when you order a couple of fried eggs before you start to collect your breakfast and they don’t arrive until you have finished eating your breakfast. I can understand if the restaurant was full however I was the only breakfast diner asking for a fried egg as the other tables had finished or nearly finishing there breakfasts. The waitress knew the eggs were late as she just slide them onto the table without any remark and carried on walking. The eggs were over cooked and a dingy yellow brown (the chef needs to change his pan of oil and not recycle it each day for breakfast eggs) Your your reception team are very welcoming and more than helpful, although I mentioned the poor room service and food quality and all that was said is I will feed it back to the manager. I would have expected at least the service charge to be removed or the ceasar salad for the bill. I didn’t challenge as needed to leave plus didn’t want to start my day with confrontation.

As a whole not bad but I was in hotel for 2 nights and no hand soap in my room, had to use shower gel to wash my hands. The orange juice served at breakfast is disgusting, it tastes like a very weak diluting orange concentrate, bring back the previous make please.

I emailed the hotel before arrival and received no reply. I was asked at reception if I had stayed there before, and when I said no, I was given no information whatsoever on facilities, breakfast, or anything. I waited in a queue of about 10 people at reception to check out before needing to depart without checking out because only one person was there for all of those people. I emailed the hotel after departing and received no reply.

The staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble. Service was prompt and not intrusive. Rooms excellent. We would like to have had more control of the heating as the bedrooms were rather cold for the very elderly family member travelling with us. I would have preferred the corridor lights to have been switched off during the night as I am a light sleeper but I understand the need for safety and security of all guests. Food - breakfast and dinner - was excellent value. Overall very, very good. We will certainly recommend the hotel to others.

The room was adequate for 1 night although we had to ask twice for a hairdryer for the room and there was no bin in the bathroom, which would have been useful. We were also charged £5 for parking the car which we have not had to pay before.

We arrived at the hotel to find there was no hot water, we expected it to be fixed by the next day, however when we checked after two nights, still no hot water. No alternative accommodation was offered and also no compensation. We would expect a hotel of this caliber to have back up systems

There was a gas leak in the area which meant that the gas supply to the hotel had to be disabled. It's a great hotel - ugly from the outside, but comfortable on the inside. Staff are always good. Often don't have an iron in the bedroom which is annoying. I'd like marmite at breakfast
