Bedrooms were clean and tidy. Staff friendly but not attentive. Location ok but a long way from anywhere with little local options. Dinner service and options on Sunday night poor.

« A nice stay with good service and a good room which was unfortunately a bit too hot. »

As described above in principle there is not much to critizise. The only thing was that the room (due to the weather) was a bit too warm and the air condition or cooler did not react when trying to use it. Maybe it was centrally deactivated?

« Had to contact European Consumer Centre to assert my rights »

The hotel cancelled our (confirmed) booking for a room adapted to disabled people because another person wanted to book it for a longer stay. We had to book another hotel and the Mercure Aachen Europaplatz didn't want to pay the additional costs of the other hotel as they claimed it was equivalent (except that it was more expensive...). We finally contacted the European Consumer Centre which handled our case and were finally reimbursed. It ia a pitty to have to contact such organisms to assert our rights...

This is the second time we've stayed here since it's close to friends whom we visit. The newly renovated rooms are lovely. The breakfast is excellent, as usual. The staff was always very helpful and friendly. The parking was easy. However, our one issue is the lack of cooling in the rooms, which seems to be an Accor problem (since we experienced this same issue at two other Accor properties). The system is based on outside temperature so even if the room is hot, the cooling will not come on if the outside temperature is not high enough. Opening the window doesn't really cool down the room. So, advertising that the rooms are air conditioned is not quite right.

I stayed in this hotel while travelling with friends through Europe. This hotel is always a great choice as it is situated close to the motorway. The staff are extremely helpful and polite. The food both at dinner and breakfast is high quality and well prepared. The rooms are clean and well stocked.

The hotel was average, nothing really impressive. The staff doesn't seem to enjoy their jobs. They are to busy. I found myself often waiting in line. They could really benefit from some customer service training. If the hotel added a shuttle to the sauna or restaurant instead of forcing the buffet that would set them apart. No one wants to eat the same thing every day on vacation. Pizza only room service is weak.

« Beautiful Hotel and Service but Rooms Too Warm »

Second stay here, good as before. Beautiful, updated room and bath. Delicious and extensive breakfast buffet. Friendly staff. However, air conditioning is not quite the best description. It works only by outside temperature so even if the room is hot, there is no AC unless it is hot outside. Opening the window does not really cool the room so it is uncomfortable, especially for sleeping. There is a kindergarten across the garden so there will be noises during the week.

I booked the hotel on accorhotels.com and I selected the option with free cancellation and without pre-payment. The reservation is guaranteed until 6pm only. Since I was late on my departure, I wanted to inform the hotel about this fact. I was also willing to pay a guarantee for the accommodation, just to be sure the room is available. My call picked up a very annoyed lady not willing to help me. When I told her my surname, she said my room was not booked. I offered to tell a booking reference (the website generated 8 digits code consisting of letters). After first letter, I was told my reservation code was not valid, since the hotel reservation can start only with a number. Afterwards, I was blamed for doing my reservation on Booking.com, later I was blamed for not even knowing my agent. It was impossible to explain that the reservation was made on Accorhotels.com. While looking for the booking reference consisting of numbers, I heard after one minute very annoyed breath on the phone. I was also told it was impossible to understand me in English (I use only English at work and I have never had a problem with being understood). Finally, I spelled my surname again and the reservation appeared... The lady confirmed that the reservation had been made via accorhotels website. I don't think she even wrote a remark about the late arrival. We reached the hotel at 23:20, but nobody was at reception. After 15 minutes, I had to contact the waitress, who was aware of my presence all the time. She went to look for a receptionist, who was in the room behind reception. No bell was available... The payment terminal did not manage to read my VISA card, so my friends had to pay with a different one, which was not a problem. The room was clean and nice. However, we were very surprised by the cleaning service at 8:30 AM knocking on our door on Saturday morning. Knocking repeated at 9:00 and 9:30. Staff is probably not aware of check-out at 12:00. After such late arrival, calm morning would have been appreciated. Unfortunately, this is not a service expected from 4-star hotel...

« The room was great, the evening in the bar not so good... »

Everything was smooth from check in to leaving the hotel, and we were very satisfied with the room. The evening in the bar was however, not so nice. Unfortunately we decided to have our welcome-drinks in the bar, at the arrival of an italian or spanish bus ful of starving people. The chaos that arised with only 3 people working in the bar, whereas 2 of them were not able/allowed to do anything but actually bring drinks to the tables, and the barkeeper completely overchallenged by the situation was very disturbing to vitness (hear). He had to mix all drinks, cash everything on the register AND make up for the mistakes his 2 helpers did. With a full dining room and the already mentioned travelgroup who started a quarrel with him. There was swearing, complaining about the hotel management, understaffed conditions and general complaining on a high level. This is not what we expect in a bar in a Mercure hotel, and that is the reason, that we give only 7 of 10 points for this actual hotel.

IT problems meant that every time you wanted to go to your room a staff member had to let you in, plus bar and restaurant was cash only. Dinner was buffet only with not much choice but what there was was good. Great breakfast

The refurbished rooms are very comfortable. I personally found the pillows a bit hard and both the duvet and pillows were a little small. Wi-Fi access straightforward. Check-in and check-out were quick and easy.
