« Not what i expected from Sofitel »

Room was fairly dated and not what I excepted from a 5 star rated hotel. It had a very strong stale and musty smell about it, door seals were not that great as outside wind would “whistle” through the gaps in the seals. Token Lip Service and staff appeared insincere about their concerns about my poor experience.On arrival I was informed that I had been provided a complimentary upgrade and obviously I was happy about that and looking forward to experiencing the upgrade. My previous stays with Sofitel and the Accor Hotel group was generally very good and so I anticipated a continuation of that level of experience.On entry, the first sensation I experienced was the damp, musty smell and looking around left me wondering what the room i had been upgraded from must have been like? Because, putting aside the smell for a second, this room was so small i couldn't swing a cat in it (not that i would).5 mins after entering, i received a phone call from a lady at the front desk to check on me, I informed her about the smell and she commented that it must be the lack of ventilation. I agreed I would leave the windows open to see if that helped - She did not bother to call back or check up to see if that worked.Next day, smell remained and again it was strong, so i called front desk and another lady that time commented that it was wrong to not follow through on my initial complaint and that she would send a maintenance person to inspect. He arrived, he confirmed that indeed there was a stink in the room and went about replacing some filter connected, I assume, to the air-conditioning. No follow up call from the front desk or anyone.Next morning (checkout) there was still a lingering smell but by this stage I couldn't care less because thankfully I was leaving. Front desk asked me about my stay, I informed her about my experience and her only question being whether I had raised that with someone? I confirmed I had and she appeared relieved that it was now not her problem and that someone else could deal with it.Overall the room was intolerable, service was poor and i am hoping an exception to the level of service and standard of stay i have previously experienced with the Accor Hotel Group.

It was a nice stay, friendly staff and clean room. The only negative would be the bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable. Perhaps the mattress was a bit old. Other than that it was great.

Most disappointing was the service of restaurant at breakfast. The Male managers seemed more interested in themselves than the customers. The service staff tried hard but had no direction from the two managers who didn't appear interested.

Really enjoyed our 3 day XPO. The Sofitel is centrally located so alot of Gold Coast attractions are nearby and within walkable distance. Food and service was great and would definitely use this hotel again.

I asked twice for the mini bar to be emptied - by email before arriving and on check in - this was not done. The in room meal was terrible and tasteless There was loud music playing downstairs both nights until very late which disrupted my sleep

The room was lovely with beautiful views and the service impeccable as always. The only frustration which has happened every stat is the key card failed to open the door again and when the cleaner called for someone to come up was advised we had to go down and get another card from reception again. Not a major issue just a little frustrating as it has happened on every stay for some reason? Overall wonderful experience though
