Adelaide sightseeing

Here’s our list of places to visit in Adelaide:
World-Class Wine Regions
Adelaide and surrounds are home to some of the best wine regions in Australia. There are hundreds of award-winning wineries and cellar doors close to the city, located in famous winemaking regions including the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley and Coonawarra. With so many spots to choose from your main challenge will be deciding which direction to head in first!
To make the most of your visit and enjoy the tastings on offer book a guided wine tour or arrange alternative transport like a minibus, private limousine or a bike.
Food Markets
Along with the world-class wine scene, Adelaide is also celebrated for its top quality food offering, making it a popular destination for lovers of fine foods.
One great way to sample the local produce is to visit one of the famous Adelaide food markets, with the Adelaide Central Market being the main drawcard. Opened 140 years ago and boasting more than 80 stalls selling local produce, specialty goods, artisan wares, gifts and more, you’re bound to find some of the state’s best eats, ingredients and creations here.
Beautiful Local Beaches
Many great South Australian beaches are located under an hour, or even under 30 minutes from Adelaide, meaning you can enjoy the perks of the city while still being in close proximity to the ocean. For easy access Glenelg is a great option, with a tram running from the city to the waterfront. If you want to snorkel visit Christie’s beach or for surfing and body boarding check out Moana, about 40 minutes from the city.
Festivals for all Ages and Interests
Regardless of your hobbies and interests you’re bound to find a festival in Adelaide to suit, from larger annual affairs right through to niche and specialised events. Here are a few of the top Adelaide events to consider when you’re planning the timing of your visit:

  • Adelaide Fringe Festival – February – March
The Adelaide Fringe Festival is the largest ‘open-access’ arts festival in Australia. The festival is celebrated for welcoming artists near and far to get involved and it certainly attracts the crowds because of it. The Fringe Festival sprawls across Adelaide, with performances and pop-ups taking place across the city, from theatre to comedy, film to cabaret, art, design and more. Expect your visit to the Fringe to be diverse and possibly like no other major arts event you’ve been to before.
  • WOMADelaide – March
WOMADelaide or WOMAD for short stands for World of Music, Arts and Dance. It’s a four day festival held each year that’s part of the Adelaide Festival. Hundreds of artists from around the world flock to Adelaide for this special event, ranging from music performances to multicultural cooking demonstrations, educational ‘Planet  talks’ covering environmental issues, workshops and yoga to name but a few of the highlights.
  • Royal Adelaide Show – September
Combine a carnival with the best of agriculture and a celebration of all things local and you get the Royal Adelaide Show. Kicking off on the first weekend of September each year, this annual agricultural event is loved by locals and visitors alike. Visit the learning centre with the family for interactive and immersive experiences such as science activities and feeding baby animals, get your heart rate up on one of the carnival rides and sample gourmet food from exhibitors.
