The Shopaholic's Guide to Melbourne

Some people travel to lounge on the beach, others enjoy historical sites - and some of us just want to shop until we drop. If you're in this latter group, you'll definitely want to book a holiday to Melbourne at some point in the near future.

Bourke Street mall

Start off your shopping journey at the Bourke Street mall, an open-air, pedestrian-only strip between Swanston and Elizabeth streets that features all of the big-name stores in the Melbourne CBD. You can pop into Myer or David Jones, Australia's largest department stores.

This is the perfect destination for shoppers who are looking for high-end, trendy clothing, so be prepared to spend some time in the dressing room.

Fitzroy

Fitzroy is a destination that should be on any shopaholic's itinerary. This adorable area features all sorts of shops, including fancy boutiques and gorgeous vintage clothing and goods.

This is also a good place to head if you're feeling a bit peckish - there are heaps of cafes, restaurants and bars to help you recharge in between bouts of spending.

Queen Victoria Market

Head here for a true Melbourne experience. This enormous market, located between Victoria Street and Franklin Street, has shops and stalls selling everything from gourmet foods to cookware to jewellery.

You can also get a nice meal here, or satisfy your sweet tooth with a hot doughnut. If your feet get tired, you're in luck - just book an appointment for a foot massage right there in Queen Vic.

Chapel Street

If you're still standing after all this shopping, your final run should be on Chapel Street. This long avenue features miles and miles of shops.

There are plenty of great stores along the main drag, but we recommend slipping down some of the side streets to see the real gems.
