Head to Melbourne for a month full of entertainment

Melbourne is a city full of fun, fashion and entertainment at the best of times, but if you're planning to take a trip to this iconic Aussie city any time soon, make it during the month of March. There are scores of festivals and events on Melbourne's itinerary this month, so there's something for everyone to enjoy. Here are just a few of the events the city has in store for visitors and locals alike:

Melbourne Fashion Festival

The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival is set to be held over March 17 to 23 in a flurry of style, glamour and beauty. The event will showcase the best of Australian designers as well as fresh new talent in a series of runway shows and events, so fashionistas are in for a treat. There are a series of exciting events on show during the week, including L'oreal Beauty Workshops, a boutique high tea, premium runway events and live music and entertainment. Admire the models, makeup, hairstyles and garments on show on the runway and get inspired for the great shopping available across Melbourne. Plus, find out who will be crowned the prestigious title of Tiffany & Co. National Designer of the Year 2014.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival

It's hard to resist a great comedy show, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is bound to entertain guests of all ages. The festival will run from March 26 to April 20 2014 and there are plenty of shows to attend with comedy from all walks of Australia. There's an open mic competition 'RAW Comedy', a national secondary schools comedy program, and well known Aussie comedians. There's also international entertainers and a selection of kids comedy shows such as the 'Flying Fruit Fly Circus', so it really is an event for any type of traveller. All the entertainment will be hosted across a spread of Melbourne locations, including the Royal Botanical Gardens, Melbourne Town Hall, St Paul's Cathedral and the Paloma Bar.

Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show

For those into flora and botanicals, Melbourne has your entertainment sorted with the gorgeous International Flower and Garden Show. This annual event will showcase the best of horticulture with a variety of flower displays, show gardens, sculpture exhibitions and floral design workshops on offer for visitors. Visit the Great Hall of Flowers, where stunning displays of largely Victorian-grown cut flowers line the halls. Kids will love visiting the Disney Fairies Children's Garden, where they can hunt for treasure and enjoy face painting and other children​'s activities. Eco friendly gardeners will enjoy the Urban Container Garden display, where guests can learn about ways to incorporate plants into city living with green walls and roofs and 'urban forests', from University of Melbourne experts.

Melbourne Food and Wine Festival

Although this event kicked off on February 28, it's set to continue all the way to March 16. The festival celebrates the culinary delights of Australia in a series of food and drink related events. This year, the festival's theme is water, so concepts including irrigation, hand fishing and aquaculture will all be explored. There are plenty of events to delight the tastebuds, including 'Gluten Free and Things from the Sea' an extravaganza showcasing gluten free cooking with different gluten free flours and even gluten free beer , 'Sustainable Seafood Sensation', a scrumptious four-course dinner, and a gorgeous high tea complete with bubbles at the Art Centre Melbourne. Whatever your taste, there's something to suit everyone at each of these fantastic festivals - so head to Melbourne and grab your tickets before they all run out!
