Fawn over the flora at Floriade in Canberra

What better way to welcome in spring in Canberra than with a visit to Floriade, the city's month-long celebration of the season and stunning blooms that come with it.

Kicking off Saturday 16 September through to 15 October 2017, this year's Floriade event is expected to bring in more than 400,000 visitors and showcase a million flowers in the Commonwealth Park.

Aside from potentially being the best floral display you've ever seen, there are a number of other highlights to look forward to.

Get your bearings with a ride on the massive 35-metre high Ferris wheel for a view of the display that you just won't get from wandering the flower beds. Stop by the Inspiration Hub, which is brimming with special guests, celebrity appearances, information about ecological gardening, backyard permaculture and more.

When you start to feel hungry, visit the Gourmet Garden where you will find food demonstrations from leading chefs. There will also be live entertainment all around throughout your visit, as roving entertainers, buskers, musical acts and headline performers keep the atmosphere as vibrant as the flowers themselves.

The kids will also love it. Matilda's Farmyard lets them get close to their favourite furry farmyard animals, while the Circus Playground will have them juggling, learning to walk on stilts and giving the balance beams a go. Pop over to the Airdiction Airbrushing stall for some professional face painting for the young and not-as-young, too!

And the best part? This colourful and fragrant event is totally free - just head along 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday or 9am to 5.30pm on weekends to see the blooms for yourself. Book in your Canberra accommodation to make the most of this exciting event.
