No visit to Sydney is complete without a stand-up paddle board experience.

Stand-up paddle boarding is a great way to view beautiful Sydney harbour and explore the city’s scenic coastline. Suitable for everyone from beginners to pros, these are the best places to stand-up paddle board (SUP) in Sydney.

Manly

Many has always been a much-loved beach destination in Sydney and it’s the ideal spot for SUP. With the option of Little Manly Beach and Cabbage Tree Bay you are spoilt for choice when it comes to clean, calm waters. Located on the pier side, Manly Kayak Centre gives you the choice of taking a lesson and hiring a board yourself. With lots of hidden coves to explore you’re sure to be out on the water until sunset. Cross Manly and take a stroll up to beautiful Cabbage Tree Bay.  This protected marine reserve is the perfect place to hire a SUP and the view the variety of marine life that lies below.

Watsons Bay

Take the scenic 20-minute ferry ride to Watsons Bay and be rewarded with crystal-clear waters and lush green surrounds. Watsons Bay’s calm, sheltered waters create perfect conditions for beginners. If you’re interested in taking a lesson be sure to check out Watsons Bay Stand Up Paddling (WATSSUP). Run by Bondi Rescue lifeguard Terry McDermott and Joanna Kyraizakos WATSSUP offers group and private lessons for SUP-ers of all levels. While out paddling you’re also sure to catch excellent city and harbour views of Sydney in the distance. There are also lots of lovely restaurants with great views in Watsons Bay. After you’ve worked up an appetite, visit Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel or Doyles on the Beach.

Cronulla

Mastered the basics of SUP and looking for new challenge? Then maybe it’s time to try out Monster SUP in Cronulla. With a board big enough to fit eight people, this is the perfect holiday experience for a group of friends or families. If you’re looking for something a little easier going, you can also take flat water classes (or hire out boards) in serene Gunnamatta Bay (behind Cronulla). 

Rose Bay

Boasting incredible views of Sydney Harbour and the city, it’s no surprise Rose Bay is one of the best stand-up paddle board locations in Sydney. With unbelievably flat, calm waters this is the perfect place for SUP novices. Take a lesson or hire boards from Oz SUP and Rose Bay Aquatic Hire. A beautiful location and excellent views, what else could you ask for?

Balmoral Beach

If you’re willing to head a little out of Sydney’s centre, then Balmoral Beach is well worth the drive. With lovely, calm waters Balmoral Beach lets you escape the crowds that gather in the more well-known spots. Balmoral Boatshed lets you rent boards for as long as you need and with a large rental area you have the option to venture out far as you like. Be sure to bring a picnic and enjoy the picturesque beach after your paddle.
