AMERICAN BBQ: TWELVE BOAR

Where?
Cleveland, 30km east of CBD

Making their own sauces from authentic US recipes and cooking their Briskets for 14 hours, Twelve Boar is the real deal that brings a taste of American BBQ to Brisbane’s east. With ribs, buffalo wings and pulled brisket burgers, this joint is a meat lover’s delight.
Hot Tip: Twelve Boar have great value mid-week specials. Monday’s ribs night is top of our list, at only $20 for a half rack with slaw and a choice of fries or onion rings – Freakin’ Amazing!

INDIAN: HALIM’S INDIAN TAJ

Rosalie, 3km west of CBD
How much?
$40 for 2 people
If you’re looking for a cheap bite in a convenient location that’s full of flavour, Halim’s is a local favourite that fills bellies for a pinch. Rice is complimentary with mains too, so get stuck in and order a couple of their signature naans.
Hot tip: Portions are generous, so prepare for some serious eating, or even grab a doggy bag for tomorrow’s lunch.

TURKISH: CARAVANSERAI

West End, 3km south west of the CBD
How much?
$50 for 2 people. Corkage is $3 pp.
Caravanserai is great if you’ve got a few mates together and need a good feed as their mezze platters are stacked full of succulent meats, cheeses and delicious veg. Share between 3-4 people for an entrée, or split between two if you’re hungry! If you’re really pushing the boat out, the banquet options offer serious value on all their most popular dishes.
Hot Tip: If the weather is behaving, the tables towards the back offer candle-lit, balcony seating – good vibes all round. On Tuesdays the full banquet is served at the discounted price of $29.99 per person - now you’ve just got to pick a movie to complete the night!

ITALIAN: SUGO MI

If you’re visiting Bulimba there’s little doubt you’ll hit Oxford Street. Bustling with cafes and boutiques, this city gem is also home to Sugo Mi, our pick for Italian fare. Serving a mouth-watering range of stone-baked pizzas, gnocchi and fresh pastas, this beauty even has dessert covered with their own gelataria next door, an absolute score if you’re asking us!
Hot Tip: Sugo Mi hosts Charity Tuesday, where the restaurant donates to a cause of their choosing. On selected Tuesdays the BYO the corkage is donated – bravo Sugo Mi!

ASIAN: THE VIETNAMESE

Fortitude Valley, 2km north east of CBD

The Vietnamese has been a staple in Fortitude Valley for over 30 years, and it’s showing no signs of changing. This joint is great for a quick lunch on the go, or a knees-up when the whistle blows.
Hot Tip: If you’re in Fortitude Valley around lunchtime and need a speedy fix with great flavour, the noodle soups really hit the spot – choose your noodle type, meat and plate size for a simple lunch that packs a punch.
