Living in one of the world’s most expensive cities has encouraged me to find ways to be more economical. Using public transport, be it the underground train or buses, has become an important part of my day. This photo, taken on the Northeast line, gives us a glimpse into the world of Singapore public transport.

Neighbourhood of Little India

Easily recognisable thanks to their traditional bright storefronts, these tiny fast food shops are some of the busiest places in the city. You'll find delicious local dishes at incredibly low prices, made in-house by the neighbourhoods' many cooks, who get up as early as 3am to start preparing food for friends and neighbours!

Knots Living Cafe

The Knots Living Cafe offers much more than a cup of coffee. The owners noticed that lots of people were taking photos of their coffees to put on Instagram, so they've started providing clients with all the props they need to enhance their pictures, from plants to on-trend accessories - all part of the service! The café has excellent food, sensational music and inspires creativity throughout the country. The perfect place to meet new people, brush up on your Malay and maybe even get a good photo for your album.

One of the more common sights in Singapore is older Chinese locals, gathered silently around game tables at community centres with their eyes riveted on the players. However, the tradition of Chinese checkers and chess is more than just fun and games: it’s a way for families and friends to keep up on the local happenings, and perhaps win some money if it's their lucky day!

Singapore boasts a very culturally diverse population and a variety of religions, including Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. Here, locals gather in an elegantly decorated Buddhist temple to pray together.

Super Trees at Gardens by the Bay Singapore

Despite being a young country, Singapore has wasted no time becoming a leader in technology. A good example of Singapore’s modern impact on the world is the Garden by the Bay and the Super Trees, which absorb the sunlight during the day and use it to power a music and lighting system, creating a breathtaking evening show for locals and tourists alike.
