Hotel and breakfast was lovely all round. We had travelled 6 hours to get to the hotel on Friday night to get there and find out it had been ‘canceled’ despite phoning up a few days prior to let them know we would be arriving late (due to work etc). I had to pay for it all again (2 nights) however, not the room I had asked for (double) but a twin room. This was obviously disappointing because I had already paid a lot of money in the first instance. What disappointed me more was I didn’t receive an email from the hotel itself stating it had been cancelled- I didn’t cancel it myself so this shouldn’t of happened. Especially as our journey took 6 hours (imagine if they didn’t have a room available) so not getting in contact with me was outrageous. Especially as I had phoned up twice before arriving to check the booking and payment was all confirmed, and to also inform them we were arriving late. This was a present for my boyfriends birthday and this really upset me/ us for the rest of the weekend - the hotel itself was lovely which was a shame. We would love to redo the weekend so we can have a positive experience/ stay at the Mercure, St Albans

Staff are lovely but our room which was one of your best was very shabby dark and gloomy,old worn furniture, Window lock broken, Not suitable for paying guests. We was offered another room that was slightly better but still not good enough.

Noisy hotel, hard bed but nice room

Great service when arriving at 8.30pm, room nice and food serviced until 10.30pm. However, night one in room 107, I spent the night listening to the people above going to the toilet most of the night and using the shower in the morning, let alone the toilet being flushed. Our night in the room wasn't that great either, the mattress was hard but at first thought this could be good for myself and my husband. We didn't have breakfast, as I felt £35 for two morning was a bit expensive so we didn't have the breakfast. Two night, well it started off really good, but little behold at 2.30am we were awoke by a woman shorting "Sean" and banging on our door to let her in. She then spent 10 minutes shouting for the "cunt" to let her in and sleep on the floor. I live in Derby and wouldn't expect this there let alone in St Alban's. Once this woman found "Sean" and he let her sleep on the floor it went quiet, thank the lord. My husband was then in a lot of pain with his back and the hard mattress. Not alot that can be done about that. All in all, the hotel is a lovely place but I or my husband will not be staying at this hotel again.

Bedroom was cold in early autumn- single glazing and open vented windows will do that. Very noisy with paper thin walls and loud plumbing from next door rooms. People banging on doors and shouting at 2am also didn't help. Should have had a bottle of water in room but hotel didn't seem to know anything about that offer. Meeting rooms just had 2 plug sockets at end of room and we tried over the cables many times. Not up to modern standards.

I stay here a lot on business, the cheap deal rooms can be very noisy (air conditioning units and near the main road) and require some refurbishment but other rooms are quiet and comfortable

Hotel had a wedding on the Saturday night. No noise from the marque but woken several times by loud groups of wedding guests moving around the hotel. Following night much better. Breakfast was good with professional friendly staff. Room was average, with air conditioning unit that didn't work. Bathroom was clean and powerful shower. Overall up-keep of the hotel was good.

The food and staff could not be faulted however the noise intrusion from adjoining rooms was very disturbing and resulted in frequent disturbances during the night from surronding returning guests and there usage of bathroom facilities including hearing their use of toilet and showers and creaking floarboards as they walked around their rooms.

Very good reception experience. The gym air conditioning still needs replacing not fixing (again) and the weights are old and need sorting out (not the first time I've mentioned this in the LAST YEAR).

A definite improvement on my last stay. I was given a quiet room in a section of the hotel away from noise, following a previous visit where I was stuck next to an African entourage of ignoramuses who seemed to think yapping and hollering at 3am is somehow acceptable. No such problems this time, and it's nice to know that the hotel takes feedback seriously and acts upon it. The added bonus of air conditioning and bottled water was also a life-saver in the stinking heat. Many thanks to the excellent hotel staff.
