My first time staying at a Sofitel and I am very impressed by this Sofitel. I used Accor Plus to redeem 1 free night but even if I have to pay, it is very good value for money. I love the exterior and interior of the hotel, the gym and the room. If they offer shuttle service from Hotel to Nearest Subway Station, then it will be perfect. Based on the experience in this hotel, I may consider staying at other sofitel over Crowne Plaza, Marriott or Intercontinental.

room for improvement: 1/ the universal sockets in the room near desk never work. Standard plugs can never fit into the sockets, none of them. 2/ the wifi is just too weak -- i am willing to pay for premium service of wifi if there is one.

Mr. Peter, guest relationship manager very kind, thanks for your talk and glad meeting you in person. All staff at the lounge very professional and helpful, showing the true quality of Sofitel and gave made me felt very welcome. The negative point was Concierge desk especially Mr. Kevin. As the chief concierge officer, shooting out loudly to the youngers, cleaning his nose noisily in duty and NOT AT ALL attentive in any occasion. His self presentation was even printed in indoor newspaper but represented such a bad image. What a pity.

Having stayed here around 5-8 times now I finally come around to writing a deserved review. Pros: Fantastic Staff - Peter and his team at the Club Millesime (executive lounge) are fantastic and I look forward to seeing them each time. Super friendly and always helpful. Since they asked, I gave them (Chef Alexander) a challenge last time to prepare a healthy dinner and they created pretty much the best hotel in-room dinner I have had to date in Asia. Good recognition of LeClub Accor Platinum Status - usually I get upgraded to a suite or an executive/club room which is quite nice, some free drink vouchers, a welcome plate with fruits/pastries and chocolates in the room, exclusive tables in the breakfast area, I believe a daily pressing of 1-2 shirts [not 100% sure] Comfortable Club Millesime - its a quite good executive lounge with high quality food and changing dishes; from cheese to meat skewers to carefully prepared pastries/sandwiches to macaroons The breakfast - by far the best breakfast I have had yet in China; 2 determinants: 1) fantastic fresh croissants and 2) Freshly-squeezed juices [yes it’s important to stay healthy] Huge and modern gym - the second key determining factor why I return; its a great gym thats at a good temperature and has a lot of space and equipment. Steam room and sauna also quite big and modern & clean. Super close to the airport - I am often arriving at the hotel within 30 min of leaving my domestic flight seat (DiDi taxi arranged by me of course); quite nice when arriving late at night The only drawback: Internet is quite a pain often especially now before the upcoming China International Import & Export Exhibition. But the team told me after Nov 10th this should be hopefully improved.

Room is clean and tidy except the toliet door handle is loose. Afternoon tea on exective floor had very little choice of snacks and food but i need to pay extra to stay on executive floor.

« Not Your Usual Sofitel Hotel »

Do not expect the usual global standards of Sofitel at this property. This property is not located in CBD nor central Shanghai. Near to expo venue. Front Desk team is not as knowledgeable but the worse is the Banquet Team. Was there to hold a conference for 120 and with 15 overseas guests in the group. The overall feeling is the staff team hopes I take the easy way out and hence less work. Lack of initiative unless being requested for. It was unimaginable that it was a Sofitel hotel.

« A magnificent hotel with beautiful architecture but location is far away from City »

This is my second time staying here within a month. Executive lounge service is always in high standard. All staff are quite helpful, especially Alicia, her friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests makes you feel comfortable, and a local male manager? I can't remember his name, when we ask to have some information of local restaurants, he introduce and suggest in details, writing down the address and the famous dishes on the paper. My wife gives a Big Like to him and Alicia. The location of this hotel is really not so convenient. One morning, I get on a taxi just out side the hotel lobby, after telling the driver my destination, he told me that it may take more than a hour to there while I check from the google map, it shows 31 mins. [may be the traffic is heavy during rush hour] At the end, I accept the driver's suggestion - he drops me down on the nearest subway station - Hongqiao station. When I came back, it is so difficult to get the taxi in Hongqiao station. I ask the station information counter, they suggest me to use the web taxi that I don't have. Later they suggest me to walk back to hotel as it is only a short distance. At the end, I use 25 minutes to come back hotel on foot. Frankly speaking, it is not a long distance, but not a short one either as claimed by the station information counter. Later when I mentioned this to executive lounge staff, they suggest me to get off the train one or two station earlier that may easier to get taxi back to hotel. Later I learn that there is shuttle available from hotel to Hongqiao station though only in the morning sessions and pre-registration is required.

great hotel quality throughout the entire complex. However, service is seriously lacking. Room service doesn’t answer phone, getting ice in the room was challenging. Once bugs are worked out, this is THE PLACE to stay!!

Check in Check out : Very smooth Suite: A beautiful suite with nice view, spacious. Clean and well decorated. Various TV channels available. Executive lounge: A nice place to chat and meet people. Both manager and the waitress are always so polite to people and ready to help. Chinese restaurant, LE CHINOIS : Good decoration. The food is up to standard. The table [for two person] is too small for Chinese dishes. If you order three or more, there are not enough space to put all dishes.International restaurant, KWEE ZEEN : Also well decorated, spacious. The food is up to standard though not very excellent, while the service is required to improve. I saw the managers [few] worked very hard, to serve, to clean, to walk to and fro, ...etc but the waiters are not attentive and only act passively. Hospitality is a group work, only manager working hard is not enough but the whole team. Training should be enforced to all level of the work force. A minor issue - table setting - I don't know why there was no butter knife available during breakfast, nor dinner buffet.

when i was checking-in, there was another customer trying to ask the counter staff who was serving me, your staff was not stop him and didnt told him to wait but just let him to stand next to me and keep asking (also responding to him) - i understand this is normal in China, but to be honest i do feel uncomfortable to have such check-in experience, your staff should control the customer and if someone trying to skip the queue, they should stop them...

The building is new, ,hotel is big. swimming pool is nice. Room is ok. Chinese restaurant is good. Breakfast on B1 was too crowded, too many people, short of food at the end... And Japanese restaurant seems to be out sourced. There was some disconnection between the hotel and the Japanese restaurant.
