beware paying city tax more than once

This would have scored higher but I was charged twice for the city tax. I paid with a card on my arrival and foolishly declined a receipt. When I left the next morning the receptionist insisted I had not paid the city tax. I don't have bank details on my phone, it was very early in the morning and I had a train to catch - plus I don't speak very good french, especially when taken by surprise. So I paid again - and since getting home I can see that it comes up twice on my statement. I thought an international hotel chain would be fairly safe from this kind of thing but clearly not.

Starting out with the positives : the four stars are for the staff, who was very nice and helpful, and for the breakfast, which was nice. The room itself was extremely small and not at all equipped (not even a shelf or closet for unpacking a few clothes), in the bathroom there was almost no space between the toilets, showers, and sink; the rooms were additionnally not at all soundproof and we could hear neighbors taking showers. I was expecting Ibis Styles to be more comfortable than a regular Ibis but was disappointed.

The receptionist is rude. Didnt allowed me to eat at the dinner table. Didnt want to store a wine. Asked if i really needed to drink that.

Not too bad. 16 to 20 minutes walk to the Station.

A sub standard Ibis , though a little tired. Breakfast was absolutely rubbish. Worse ever. The egg was cold the hash browns were still chilled, the sausages were white because they were uncooked. Will not go back. Sorry.
