In an effort to improve the experience for the next guests please know that the mattress in room 512(if I recall correctly) needs to be replaced as it sags in the middle so that your feet and head are higher than your back. I considered sleeping on the floor but then tried sleeping sideways in the bed which eliminated my back pain. Also There are stains on the ottoman.

This hotel is in the perfect location to walk to everything in Queenstown. We reserved a Superior Spa Room. The suite was huge with a beautiful bathroom, thick towels and bathrobes, huge soaking tub (though the jets did not work), large shower with dual shower heads, nice smelling toiletries, nice slippers, coffee maker, nice tea selection, mini fridge with free, non-alcoholic drinks, a few snacks, chocolate at turn-down, two balconies, and a beautiful view. During tea time each afternoon the chef sent out absolutely delicious snack bites. We couldn’t wait for the next day to see what he would make for us. He was very creative. I do have many suggestions that would make this hotel top-notch vs. just very good: the room decor was drab and bland. The carpet and furniture were worn, the curtains were falling off the rod, the air conditioner wouldn’t stay set on our desired temperature, the lighting was poor, the bed was not comfortable, there was very little artwork, and there were very few plugs in the bedroom. We paid for a Clubroom and were told about afternoon tea from 3-5 pm but we weren’t told about happy hour. We arrived at 5pm one afternoon and were given a happy hour menu. We had no idea this was an amenity that we had already paid for in our package rate. This was irritating. One day during teatime we were offered six different teas whereas the previous two days we were only offered four. Apparently there was always six. Breakfast was included in our room rate. It was the same food items every day with very little variation (cut fruit differed). This got very boring. We could order off the menu too so one day I ordered the porridge. It was very runny. The side of smoked salmon was tasty but only included one small piece of salmon. I called the concierge one morning, looking for recommendations about an activity since ours was canceled due to weather. I had found the place online and asked her if it was a company that the hotel recommended. She said she would call the company to see if they had availability (I saw that they did online) but she never called me back. It was a waste of time to call downstairs. Little details like these unfortunately make this hotel more average than it should be, especially for a Sofitel. It really needs a facelift.

Breakfast was lovely, staff were lovely but we wouldn’t stay due to our room being basically at road level so unable to open curtains without feeling over looked
