My stay at the Mercure in Canberra was everything I could hope for and more. The staff at the hotel were amazing and very willing to answer questions as well as being extremely friendly and outgoing. I felt like I was at home there.

The staff is very friendly and helpful but the rooms are decorated and furnished in a despondant, dreary fashion - brown carpets and dark brown furniture. They are in need of an uplift. Not our sort of hotel.

« Not up to usual Accor standard »

Although quite empty it seemed understaffed. On checkin with two small children we were given assistance with our luggage, but there was a luggage trolley that was not used so my daughter-in-law and I had to carry bags as well as infants. The poached eggs at breakfast were disgusting. I dined alone with a toddler and it would have been reasonable for a waitress to ask me if I would like a tea or coffee as I could not leave the toddler to get it myself. Generally the food was awful. We had room service twice and ate in the bistro once. I did not get any consideration for my Accor status apart from the welcome drink and had to ask for the bottled water in the room to be removed from the bill.

« Great stay »

We only stayed 3 nights but thoroughly enjoyed the large room and king-size, comfortable bed. Staff were very friendly and helpful and it was not far across an atrium style courtyard to the restaurant and bar from our room. Not far to walk - 10 mins - to the jump on jump off (free) bus to many of the popular cultural areas of the city. A grand older style hotel with decent sized rooms and service. Would recommend the hotel to friends. :-)

For an overnight stay this hotel was just what we needed. Breakfast was great, the bistro at night was good after a lot of walking during the day-not far to go. The room was comfortable, clean and spacious. Would come back

We had a wonderful stay. We were upgraded to a superior king room with balcony which was a lovely surprise. Staff were pleasant and low key. Breakfast buffet was very enjoyable and breakfast staff were attentive and welcoming.

Nice quiet room. My meal in Olim’s Bistro was delicious (round from the sports bar). There was a good selection at breakfast. Car park is convenient.

The staff were amazing. It was my 61st birthday and boy one I was looking forward to. Everyone from front desk to restaurant gave me best wishes , arranged for my husband to have flowers delivered and booked a brilliant restaurant for my Birthday lunch. 100 pts for service. I have stayed here before and love the courtyard room and thanks for the upgrade Accor to the loft apartment.

« Good budget hotel. »

My wife and I enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Mercure Canberra. It was ideally located within walking distance of the Australian War Memorial and the Canberra Centre. The room was spacious and clean but lacked a lounge and the table was very small which made it difficult to eat meals that we had brought back to the room. The bed and pillows were too hard but we still managed to sleep soundly, somehow. Also, there was no bar soap on the vanity and we had to buy our own rather than use the bath gel. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the best tourist attractions to visit and the best way to travel to them, via the free Cultural Loop bus. The breakfast choices were adequate but boring after 4 days of the same food. Even though we enjoyed our stay, we will probably stay elsewhere the next time we visit Canberra.

Good location ,rooms very nice , staff were great , brekky in resturuant was good ,bottle shop is ambarrasing , The Hotel and bistro area had a horrible smell about it , like the sewer was blocked or something , need to get someone to check that out, but other then that , i will return

Only stayed 1 night and normally stay at the Novotel when we are in Canberra, but really glad we tried your hotel. Nice friendly check in, got upgraded to a Loft balcony room, 2 free drinks and a special surprise, balloons, plate of sweets and a bottle of bubbly for my wives 60th birthday. Thank you very much.

We stayed in the old, charming historic Mercure Hotel in Canberra for two nights.(It used to be known as 'Olims'). Close enough to walk to the War Memorial or into the city. Very comfortable, lovely gardens and a great restaurant. However, the hotel has now become 'pet friendly' with two rooms set aside for those with pets. These rooms are away from reception (near the rear carpark) and therefore unable to be monitored. We were not impressed by being woken up early morning at 6.30 by a yappy dog. Nor hearing it occasionally through the day. Why a hotel chain like Mercure would wish to benefit two clients with dogs over numerous others in the same vicinity is beyond me. When booking make sure you stipulate "away from the Pet Friendly rooms".
