« A great place for a night away »

My wife and stayed at the Sofitel this weekend for an adult night away. We were greeted curbside by very friendly staff who took the car and made sure we got into the hotel without trouble. Check in process was seamless and staff were super friendly. The lobby is elegant and modern and smelled amazing. We were lucky enough to stay on the 17th floor, however the view wasn't great. Certainly not the hotels fault. The room was very good size, extremely comfortable bed, great amenities within. The best part was the bathroom. Certainly top notch. Nice tub, beautiful shower with glass doors plenty of space and light. Also, wireless chargers on the night stands-a very nice touch and welcomed surprise. Great location to the night life on Crescent Street. Will definitely return!

I booked online a week or so before New Years Eve, hoping for nice indulgent treat to celebrate my anniversary with my partner. As a Sofitel Platinum member, I'm loyal to the brand and was hoping for a great experience. I booked online, using mostly points and a small (approx. $40) credit card pre-payment for my $250 room. I clicked to book, received the confirmation email, and immediately noticed that I'd been automatically directed for NYE 2019 (12/31/2019) rather than 2018. I had a non-refundable rate, and so was thinking i might be making my plans for 2019 well in advance! But, I decided to call and see if there was anything that could be done. I called Accor corporate and was told I would need to contact the hotel. After speaking with the hotel representative, I was informed that, in fact, they would be able to change the date but there would be an increase in rate to about $440. However, my payment for the first room would be credited. Great! I'm thinking. Not exactly what I planned for, but with a couple thousand more points credited, I should only end up having to pay $100-150 more. I can swing this. I receive an automated confirmation email from Montreal indicating a prepayment price of $440. No problem. I check into the hotel and have my card swiped. Normal procedure as I know they need to take the card for a deposit. Before I checked out, I called to check in on the balance to be paid and with the hope of applying points (I was never given this option by the hotel staff). I interacted with an extremely arrogant staff member named Maxime...more on that later. He informed me that there was $440 charged to my card and that I had $45 dollars credit, if I wanted to use it. I was confused, as the staff I spoke to on the phone at the time of reservation indicated that my original payment would be credited to my stay. He told me that no, I had a prepayment rate and the $40 credit was an additional offer. This, in fact, is not the definition of a credit to the account. I asked him to look into it. Upon calling me back, Maxime indicated that my 8000 points would not only NOT be credited to my stay, but also that Sofitel Montreal could not reissue them to my account. Therefore, the only credit to my new stay would be $40, and I would not be allowed to use points. This was clearly the complete opposite of what I had been told over the phone by the Sofitel Montreal staff who rebooked my stay. However, rather than try to help resolve the situation, Maxime seemed to think I should be grateful to Sofitel for charging me $400 dollars more than anticipated for the night's stay, as if there was no other hotel in Montreal to choose from and as if you were doing me a great service. While I understand that I was in error and Sofitel had procedures that were waived in my benefit, I also am entitled to making an informed choice as a sofitel customer in deciding whether or not to ask for the date change to the current year or keep the next year's booking. Had I known up front that I would only be credited $40 towards my stay (rather than having my full payment of card + points credited), there is no way I would have agreed. While your property is nice, a card payment rate of $440 was not in my budget and was not commensurate with the services provided. I travel often for work and have chosen to stay at Sofitel's Asia properties due to the impeccable services offered to guests. I was hoping for the same in North America. However, I am completely put off and will reconsider any future business with your brand in the event that nothing further can be done to help resolve this truly unfortunate situation.

It was good. I wish that you had coffee service for longer in the lobby...it closed at 945 on Sunday morning and cost me $10 in the restaurant. Also, I had by phone requested adjoin rooms with my children, and was informed when I checked in that for that type of room it was an additional $30 per night. That seemed unfair to me.

« The location was great, the room was lovely and the staff were great. »

The front desk staff were extremely accommodating. The concierge suggested restaurants and made a reservation for us. He even comped the desert! We left our bags with the bell man at the end of our visit and when we retrieved them he immediately offered to hail a cab for the airport. We had brunch in the restaurant and it was lovely. The location was fabulous. Loved our stay in this hotel.

Everything from check in to check out was perfect except the slight noise bother of being in a room near elevator/ice machine. Asking guests the purpose of their stay and putting guests seeking quiet in quieter areas would be a nice plus.
