Cheap family room for the night to avoid travelling with children in the early hours. Had asked for a quiet room due to travelling with our children but was allocated a room adjacent to stairs so we were woken up repeatedly by guests coming and going all night long and therefore did not benefit from our overnight stay!

This hotel is located very close to the main airport entrance. We checked in for one night ready for an early flight next day. This gave us an extra hour in bed the next morning and a stress free walk to the check in desk. Will certainly use again.

Convenient but not relaxing

We stayed here as a family because we had a late flight back from holiday. It is within walking distance of the airport so ideal for this purpose Positives - we booked on line and were upgraded to two rooms rather than the one family room - breakfast buffet had a small selection but was quite good - the rooms were clean. Negatives - we booked online and due to the upgrade and the wording on the website we had booked one less breakfast than we intended to. This seemed to cause huge confusion when checking in, subsequently the process took far too long (at 12.45 a.m. when we just wanted to go to bed). The receptionist was polite and apologetic and tried her best to sort it out. I really don’t understand why it became such a big issue. We suggested it would be easier to pay the extra £10 however another receptionist was then called over to advise on the situation(.!). This woman was rude and abrupt, she looked at me and in a loud and abrupt voice asked “WHAT is your problem?”. I didn’t have a problem, I was very tired but polite and calm, again I offered to pay the small difference. Once this huge issue was resolved we finally got to our rooms with the intention of going to breakfast at 10am before leaving. We were woken at 8 am by a cleaner letting herself into the room to start cleaning. She left when we called out to her. I heard a further noise outside our room at 9.30am as we were packing up, I opened the door and a cleaner was trying to get in the opposite room where my teen daughters were still sleeping. I appreciate that there is a lot of housekeeping to get through but is this really necessary? Check out is up to 12 noon, and we didn’t actually get to bed until 1.30am! So overall a convenient hotel for our purpose but I will probably try elsewhere when I next require a stopover

Reception area very smart and staff really friendly and helpful. Great location for airport & NEC Room on 5th floor was tired - stained carpets & our sink had leaked overnight all over the floor. Needing some TLC.

The room was fine, the facilities and location excellent. But after a late flight, I expected to be greeted with a smile rather than disinterest. And to be told about bar and food serving times etc. Instead, the manager whispered to the staff member checking me in, to get her to upsell me breakfast. That was the only interaction until I asked for information about the hotel. Very poor, very unwelcoming and it felt I was a commodity rather than a valued guest.

I have stayed here a number of times before. The bedroom and en suite needed upgrading. Staff very good. Restaurant OK but very slow service one evening when only half full (waitress blamed kitchen staff) and 'hot' breakfast virtually cold one morning.

Reception staff when leaving hotel did not even acknowledge us walking by, just a hello would’ve been nice! The gentleman in the bar was rushed off his feet but was very friendly and helpful. Children’s food was cold and then had to wait fir fresh food but the gent did offer a drink and knocked 1 child meal off the bill.

Main reason for choosing this hotel would be the convenience factor for the airport. Reception and bar are fine and rooms are clean but very dated and in need of refurbishment.

Rooms are dirty and hotel needs overhaul

Hotel room looks shabby, dirty carpets, black kit in shower, low running sink, damaged door... hotel as such looks more like a bar next to the airport... sticky tables Not really what you may expect from a Novotel. Just compare Amsterdam City with this novotel in Birmingham, would downgrade it to a holiday inn 3 star
