Location, staff, bed and room fantastic. Unfortunately, ONLY once we had PAID €100 for our nights stay were we informed that there were renovations taking place on the third and fourth floors from 9h-18h. A small piece of chocolate was offered as compensation! Had we known we would have stayed elsewhere. Indeed, a 9h start wouldn't have mattered so much if we hadn't been woken at 8h15 with some banging on our ceiling. This lasted approximately 5 minutes, enough time to make sure we had no chance of getting back to sleep. Very disappointing and we honestly felt quite duped by Ibis.

Couldn’t have asked for a bette location, or room was literally 15 metres from Saint Bavo’s cathedral. The view over the square was amazing. Staff were so friendly and the breakfast included in the room is a must.

The parking garage was easy to access, although the steps down the centre of the access ramp make it exciting for a motorbike! I had checked in on line, however I still had to wait in a queue to complete paperwork and collect my key at reception, so don't think the on line check in is effective as it doesn't save any time. There was refurbishment work going on at the hotel, and the vibration from drilling was quite intrusive during the day. The quality of the finish in the bathroom was poor and the w/c had dropped a cm or so and creaked worryingly when anyone sat on it. The sealant around it was broken, and there was simply insufficient room to sit on the toilet without banging one's leg into the fitting holding the spare toilet roll, and more concerning there was insufficient space between the the w/c and the wall to the right hand side to allow right handed people to use the w/c easily, really poor design. The main door handle fitting/surround was loose on the bedroom side of the door, and the airconditioning itself was ineffective and leaked condensation into the bedroom above the door. When we returned from breakfast we found the bedroom door wide open with a towel on the floor to soak up the leaked a/c condensation. The lady on reception was very nice and made a note of the issues when I checked out. On the plus side we received a complementay chocolate when we checked in.

The hotel location is very convenient. On the other hand, repairing noise was much more disturbing than I could expect.

The room was fine (especially the air conditioner!), and the cleaning service was quite efficient. Usage of the elevators was slowed by numerous workers traveling from the first to the third floor (or reverse) — why couldn't they use the stairs for such a short trip? Also, there was a rather unpleasant smell in the lobby, but perhaps this had something to do with the carpeting that the workers took up around the middle of my stay.

The sentence above says it all. I thought a superior would be bigger and not only refurbished... It was noisy during the day, and there were a lot of construction working in the elevators. Reception of Laura was very good and friendly, breakfast was also nice. I am back for 5 nights starting sunday 18th august. Hope my room will be better and the hotel less noisy.

Beste heer O., Bedankt dat u ons informeert over uw ervaring van uw laatste verblijf. Zoals u zelf al aangeeft zitten we momenteel volop in renovatie van onze laatste 2 verdiepingen wat helaas maar onvermijdelijk lawaai met zich meebrengt waarvoor onze oprechte excuses! De kamers worden vernieuwd maar aan de grootte van de kamers kunnen we jammer genoeg niets wijzigen. Vanaf 24/9 zal alles vernieuwd zijn en worden de kamers op de eerste verdieping "executive" kamers die nu al ruimer zijn dan de overige standaardkamers. We begrijpen uiteraard dat de huidige werken niet de ideale omstandigheden zijn voor een wat langer verblijf . Voor 18/8 hebben wij voor u een kamer aan het einde van de gang voorgeblokt, die zijn iets ruimer dan de rest. Als u toch liever niet bij ons verblijft tijdens de renovaties neem dan gerust contact met ons op zodat wij voor u kunnen kijken om eventueel in Novotel Gent te overnachten. The whole place runs very smoothly from Front desk to Ceres on the Bar. Accommodation is good as is the sound absorption from the building exterior, given it is in the City Centre. Breakfast is varied and plentiful.

Booked this hotel as I had stayed there before and the location is good. However, unknown to me, my stay this time coincided with the big Gent festival and my room was facing one of the big stages. The first night the music was blasting u TIL 3.30 in the morning nd the second night until 1:30! The hotel knew I was a silver member and I would have expected to be allocated a room not facing the stage. When I asked to change the room, I was told that it was not possible. I feel extremely disappointed and let down.

Parking inside the premises was very tricky as we had a bigger than normal car. Very little space to enter/exit. Housekeeping staff, bar staff, restaurant staff and front office were very helpful and accommodating. Location is amazing - center of everything. We were here when it's really hot and humid during the Gent festival. It's good that they had air-conditioning.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was super clean and the bed very comfortable. I loved the location as it’s so close to the centre of Ghent. However the room is quite small with no fridge or tea/coffee making so wouldn’t be good for a long stay. Overall I think it was great value and a really nice 3 star hotel.

Serious attitude problem of night front office employee

The night FO employee (Charlotte) has a serious attitude problem. When we arrived at the hotel shortly after midnight, your front office employee did not seem to care at all about our concerns regarding the license plate number. We kindly asked her to register the license plate number already for the 17th July. For this small question, you employee asked why she should do this. After explaining our earlier troubles to her she just shrugged and snapped back asking why we did not call or text. Moreover, she mildly aggressive asked why we know now about the necessity of registering the license plate number, but not before. Well, the answer is simple: we talk to people and they told us. This specific FO employee has a serious attitude problem that is transmitted to guests in a verbal and non-verbal manner. She is extremely unfriendly, dismissive, arrogant, and entirely indifferent to guest concerns. We both work in the hospitality industry and never experienced such a rude behaviour. Neither did we learn to treat customers this way.

Hotel car parking was expensive. Hotel staff helpful and very polite. Room booked was adequate although small. Breakfast was good with a good variety of items to suit all food types- vegetarians do vegan.

It was a pleasure staying at the Ibis Ghent Centrum. The main purpose of our stop in Ghent was to view the Alatarpiece by the van Eyck Brothers so this was ideal. Comfortable and quiet room. We will be back to the charming city of Ghent and will stay in this hotel again.

Overall ok ish. Best thing about the hotel was the staff( all excellent) and the location. Overnight parking overpriced - entrance/exit to parking hazzardous. Superior room exactly like my friends but mine was more expensive( told it was because it had been refurbished( nonsense looked the same). Did not realise there was no coffee/tea in the room( just mean). Breakfast overpriced but ok in terms of quality. As a budget hotel it is expensive. Was told I had a view overlooking the square( I didn't). Room privacy poor and you have to move the table before you can draw the curtain( no net curtain) ( into the lamp( fire hazzard I suggest). Banged badly little toe returning to bed from the toilet as the bed obtrudes onto the pathway. Overall rather a lot of moans for such a small room!

We regret that the room didn't meet your expectations. For the moment we do have renovations, the rooms on the 4th en 5th floor are already done and are sold as superior room. Your frieds had a room on the 4the floor, and as far as I can see the paid the same amount. At the end of september all rooms will be renewed and the rooms on the 1st floor will be a bit larger with coffee/tea facilities and will be sold as executive/superior ones. The other rooms will become our standard rooms. The rate will fluctuate from €82 - €149, depending from the period and demand. We understand your remark about the parking. Our parking is indeed very narrow! The price is comparable to some city parkings. If our limited places are full it is nicer to offer our guests an alternative that is less expensive.
