It was relaxing overnight stay at Mercure. The hotel is located near to Duisburg main station and has good parking options in the basement area. A good option for an overnight or a loner stay at Duisburg.

There is quite some room for improvement here: many other Mercure hotels do a better job in the small details... To start with: giving me a room in a corridor that has renovation works ongoing in other rooms, is unforgivable - being rudable awakened by noise of hammers, shouting, drilling, even at "only" 8:00am, is NOT done. There is no ventilation nor heating nor airco in the room, while the room (only in May) was already quite hot. And the wifi DOESN'T work! It has worked for me at many other Mercure hotels, but here no connection possible... The mini-bar is empty, and there are not even complimentary bottles of water??? I have a one-person booking, but a two-person bed, so the bed is made... for one person only, with only one pillow, and a one-person blanket covering only half of the bed????? And then, being a gold member, I should get a free upgrade (subject to availability) - but I only receive a welcome note suggesting "if you are interested in an upgrade, please enquire with us"... How can enquire about this after checking in, when I get the note only in my room????? The only positive point for me was the breakfast buffet, which was well taken care of and of good quality. Staff at the desk was also friendly and efficient.

We are sorry that due to our renovation works you had noise and that it was too hot because of the old air condition. Unfortunately the Wifi connection was bad. We are sorry for the inconveniences you had. We hope that we can finish the total renovation of our 162 rooms, bathrooms and floors at the end of August. Then our new air condition will also be ready with an individuel regulation per room. Due to our reduced capacity of available rooms, due to the out of order rooms under construction, it was not possible to give you an upgrade to a better category. As business hotel, it is easy to say this hotel is recommended. Especially, internet connection and bed and amenity is better than other hotel I stayed in near Dusseldorf.

We where two people booking to rooms and got it confirmed, but up on arriving 19:00 pm did we learn that the rooms where not available anymore and we where put into one room, even a smokers room, this was not satisfactory, specially not arriving only at 19:00. We where on a business trip, hence meetings can take time and we cannot think about have the hotel to keep a confirmed reservation. Not a good service

« Just enough for a one night... »

Not the best hotel I had. The swimming pool was closed, so no possibility to have wellness time. The room was clean but bathroom too old and not really beautiful. The breakfast was not bad but can be better, specially the service. Tables were not cleaned. Eggs were not so good. Too much people at the same time. Lot of noise, we can ear people from other rooms. The best thing about our experience was the fact that it was during the first weekend of the Christmas market in Duisbourg. The restaurant of the hotel was not really interesting and the menu really poor.

« The central ac is an almost guaranteed reason to get sick. »

The front desk staff wasn't quite competent. The friendliness of the other staff was missed by the guys who great you first. Our family room wasn't that great since we could never open a window, it was way to loud on our side of the building. All four of us got sick.

Room was a lovely size with large and 2 smaller beds made up for us. Unfortunately the room was very hot overnight like to the air conditioning bein centrally controlled and switched off around 8pm. Pool was lovely... perfect for a morning swim.

« A good stay »

Good stay in general and very good welcome. I met just 2 problems. The first night, there was smell of smoke (cigarette) came from the bathroom, and it was not possible to discharging the smoke only by the windows, and I called the front desk and it was not possible to resolved it as they said it was not possible that happened. So I tried to removed it myself with opening also the room entrance door. For me the bathroom air system is out of order or it's not enough powerful to contain the smoke of smoking room to other room. And from the fist day reported to font desk that the entrance light bulb of our room was blown but it was never changed until we leaved the room the last day.

For business I frequently need to stay in the Duisburg area. I tend to switch between hotels now and then to keep things interesting for myself. The Mercure City is good enough, although I feel that the quality of the beds is not up to date. Having said that, the crew working there are good and go above and beyond to make the stay as comfortable as possible.
