Beautiful Hotel, Good Service, but Poorly Heated

For our trip to see Tianchi, we stayed at the Pullman, which is on the West Slope. The hotel was beautiful, service was good, but it was so poorly heated that walking around the hotel required wearing a heavy winter jacket. The Yuehua restaurant and the driver arranged by the concierge were both pretty good. The spa was a bit sketch. It was also annoying that their payment terminal kept failing transactions. I was able to pay for the rooms with my Amex, but ended up having to pay cash for everything else. The location was 30 minutes from the Songjianghe train station and two hours from the more scenic North Slope in Erdao Baihe, which was a mistake on the part of our planning. Getting to Songjianghe requires another hour and forty train ride from the Changbaishang high speed train station, which is much closer to Erdao Baihe. In hindsight, we should have booked a hotel in Erdao Baihe and saved ourselves hours of train and car rides.

The hotel is very good, excellent room and very clean but heating in the hotel was off, then very very cold inside. Bar, executive lounge and 2 of 3 restaurants were closed. So, although the infrastructure of the hotel is very good, stay was not comfortable due to the temperature inside and lack of options to eat.

We spent three nights at this location to visit nearby Changbai Mountain. We traveled as a family with two adults and three young children. Hotel staff: Hotel staff were knowledgeable and attentive to detail. We requested recommendations a number of times for restaurants and itinerary items and the staff gave great advice each time. A visit to Changbai Mountain (both the North and West slopes are easily accessible within a couple hours from the Pullman) is always tricky to arrange because of the weather restrictions. But the hotel staff kept us up-to-date on weather closures and we were easily able to see both slopes during our visit. The staff arranged our tickets and gave us perfect instructions on what to do. Despite being non-Chinese-speaking foreigners, we communicated easily with the staff through WeChat (and some do speak English). Restaurants: Among other restaurants, there is a great Korean barbeque restaurant at the hotel. The menu is simple but fresh and well executed. Atmosphere: The hotel atmosphere is quiet and secluded, like an alpine getaway. When we visited, the hotel was surrounded by a lovely wood. The air was fresh and clean and we could hear the wind in the leaves when we opened our windows. The hotel keeps several pet deer on the grounds, which visitors may pet (but not feed), and they seem friendly and well cared-for. We had plenty of space in our room and the common areas were open and airy. There was ample parking (we drove ourselves).

Large and comfortable rooms, with excellent bedding. Beautiful swimming pool and other sport facilities. Good restaurants. Friendly staff with excellent service. The only (small) drawback is that the immediate surroundings are of limited interest.

Wonderful facilties and rooms, food needed improvement

My boyfriend and I stayed from the 27th to the 31st of December. There were next to no other guests, as far as we could tell, so we felt like we had this spacious and modern hotel all to ourselves. Our room was gorgeous: we had a balcony and view over snowy fields and hills. The en suite was modern and delightfully designed, there was plenty of space for our luggage (we went skiing so we had a lot of stuff) and the bed was incredibly comfy. The only issue we had with our four day stay was the food- the dining area was big with giant windows onto a nice outdoor area and the menu looked incredible, but some of the items we ordered were completely different to what we expected. Despite this, the breakfast pastries were lovely, as was the coffee and wine. The manager of the hotel checked in on us regularly and did his best to replace the food we weren't happy with. He was kind enough to ensure we got a discount on our second day skiing (it should be available if you ask and remind the front desk). Thanks to him, our visit was much improved- the manager helped us communicate with the staff (our Chinese isn't great) and was always on hand to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. The swimming pool was also very big and quiet as are the outdoor surroundings- we were able to have a little wander all around the hotel grounds and add some snowmen to the ones already there. This hotel is very stylish and comfortable stay, we look forward to returning!
