I had an amazing repeat stay at the Mercure Bucharest Unirii. The hotel has a lot going for it. It’s located within a short walking distance from the old city. Reception staff were very helpful, especially the young woman with the red hair. I was able to leave laundry to be done (important when you fly with just carry on bags) and it was waiting for me when I returned from the first leg of my tour. The rooms were impeccably clean and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and had enough variety to meet anyone’s dietary needs. There is a bar and restaurant on site. I was told by another traveller that the food was quite good (in case you don’t want to go out for dinner). I would definitely stay here if I return to Bucharest.

This hotel is let down by the fact that it advertises that it has air con, but it does not - the hotel confirmed this to us, and it’s confirmed in the numerous responses on trip advisor. We were forced to sleep with windows wide open in the city centre surrounded by bars and restaurants as the room would not cool below 26 degrees, without them open. You will see others have made similar comments. The temp is centrally set and runs from the outside temperature - if it’s cold outside it blows hot, and vice versa! To top it off on 2 of our 3 nights here we had loud parties with discos until 1am and later which we could hear as we were directly above with a room on the 1st floor. The functions are held in the bar/restaurant which is open to reception with no doors, meaning everyone gets to listen. Staff know the issues but fob you off. We reported the temperature issue within an hour of checking in, but the member of staff said “…the guy who designed this place paid for, didn’t earn, his qualifications..just open the window and turn the thermostat off” Consequently for two nights we endured the sounds and smells of the restaurant ventilation, traffic and staff noise and smoking. We were offered a staff room on a higher floor, with the same temperature issue, where we’d have to hand back the key as we went in and out of the room as a solution. So basically move the problem to a different room. We checked out early on night 3 and relocated as the hotel did nothing in the way of remedy. Not even an apology which would have helped, but the fact they didn’t want to know until I checked out says it all. So 2 nights of external noise and 23 degree heat, plus a disco on night two and an early morning on day 3 meant on night 3 when we arrived home to see another party in full swing meant we demanded the issue was fixed or we get moved. I booked via BA on a package who tried to help resolve. However the fact I’d booked via an agent (this was mentioned many times to the point it made me feel I was not an important customer) seemed to dictate what I could be allocated and how hard they seemed to be willing to help. Other points to note, mini bar in our room was NOT complimentary, despite being listed as such on the Accor website, the rooms are fairly small on floor 1 and don’t have a chair per the pictures. Limited tea and coffee supplies, worst I’ve experienced as an Accor Limitless Member - which they refused to acknowledge my membership due to booking via BA which has never happened before or when I travel through my work booking agency. Not even a bottle of water provided. Location is good, and the hotel was clean. We didn’t use the catering facilities. Avoid at all costs to make sure you’re not disappointed.

Excellent hotel with excellent staff. Matei and Michael were perfect as receptionists and helped us in every situation possible. Andrei, the barman, was also really kind. The room was perfectly clean and the breakfast amazingly tasty and with a big variety. I surely recommend it!

Far from a 4 star experience. Pay extra for 5 star. You won’t be disappointed

Where do I begin! Room was 24* and thermostat didn’t work. If I opened windows air con fails and light comes in. Biggest problem was lack of water in the room and maid left no milk at all and had to ask for this. Only 2 tea bags in-the room, one english and one flavoured. Not difficult to deal with this. A beer at the bar cost 24 lei.5 lei for can of morretti in the local supermarket. I travel the world and enjoyed Bucharest but will not return to this hotel. Booked with BA on a package. Recommend you go 5star if staying here. All I got were apologies and a slight explanation- I don’t expect anything to change.

Even before we arrived the staff were very helpful in responding swiftly to my queries. The hotel is superb value for money. Our twin room was spacious, clean and sound -proof. The bathroom was of a very high quality, much better than comparable hotels on other city breaks. The only slight problem was that nothing could be done to cool our room. Even in February it was 26 degrees at night. Not even opening the window helped. The hotel is situated a couple of minutes walk from the bus stop for bus 100 to the airport and about 20 minutes walk to the old city centre. We also used a couple of Bolt taxis which were readily available. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the food. But a very good hotel indeed.
