Reasonable overnight stop

We stayed here for one night on our way to the south of France from the UK. It is well located for going to a restaurant for dinner in Macon. The car park is secure but over the road. On arrival, the lift was not functional. The staff were friendly and helpful and gave us our two rooms which we had booked as a family of three. The rooms were in a private enclave with a locking door which meant we could keep the actual bedroom doors open, very convenient. The rooms are basic, small and a little old now but comfortable enough. The air con was reasonably effective but a bit noisy. Bathrooms functional but one of them extremely small and the door did not slide fully shut allowing some bad smells to escape. We had breakfast included. It was very basic and frankly, not very good.

A typical Ibis Styles, which give you a bit more than an ordinary Ibis provides. It’s located on a one-way street close to the railway station and not far from the river. The English speaking staff were really helpful, one even giving us his umbrella as there was a threat of heavy rain when we went to dinner. The only problem we encountered was that the lift wasn’t working, so lots of walking up and down stairs, but these things happen. The inclusive extras included free coffee and croissants available in reception and a good buffet breakfast. This included a good range of cold meat and cheeses, an orange juicing machine (lovely) and hot choices. There is garage parking just down the street, but the wrong way so a drive around the block and not a problem, which cost €9.50 for my motorcycle and was very secure. Would happily stay here again.

It may have been my fault. I have previously stayed at an Ibis Styles and thought it was great and a premium version of basic Ibis but downmarket compared to Novotel and Mercury. I had stayed at a basic Ibis in Leeds in the previous week. Styles Macon was not as good as the basic Ibis. No kettle, noisy, large room but not particularly comfortable. Problems such as the safe was locked (don’t staff check?) and a requested car parking space not reserved - so sent to a car park 3 stories up with no lift which isn’t great when you’re in your 70’s with luggage.

Central location and friendly staff. Small room and bathroom but clean and quiet, just as I had asked. Breakfast was sufficient with various bread, viennoiseries, jams, cheese, cold cuts, fresh fruits, yoghurt, ... And good coffee. There is a garage underneath the hotel but you will need to reserve because it has only 7 places of which 2 for electrical cars. A good choice for a stopover.

As we didn’t manage to start our trip to the south of France in the early afternoon we decided to stop over for a night in Macon. The hotel is located in the city center and easy to find when leaving the highway. We arrived late and we were nicely welcomed. Our room was ready and we could directly check in. The size of the room was good, the room was correctly outfitted and clean, simple but good… After an excellent quiet night, we took our breakfast in a nicely decorated breakfast room, the choice of food was limited but good. All in one a good choice and to recommend….
