A delightful place to stay

We stayed here for 2 days to visit some sight seeing spots with our 8 yr old to celebrate her Birthday. We certainly picked the right hotel to do this. To say that employees make or break an establishment is 100% correct. Radha, the wonderful receptionist made our daughter feel so special on her Birthday and throughout our stay. Her friendliness and warmth are second to none. (Thank you so much Radha we will stop by again!) We stayed on the 3rd floor in a lovely quiet room with views of Westminster. A walk across the road brings you along the Thames and down to the London Eye. A pleasant stroll taking in the sights and a very central point for the East side of the city. Breakfast was busy but well run. Bar was also nice.. when people were in, it had atmosphere. Hotel is clean and beds comfortable. Would stay again. Thank you Novotel Waterloo.

I travel with work often and I stay at so many hotels, in fact I have stayed at this hotel before and they are usually pretty good, but on this occasion I happened to meet the wonderful Radha, She was so pleasant it made my entire trip, I have never felt so welcomed at a hotel. I had arrived early and was prepared to wait till 3pm to check in, Radha alerted me to the fact that as a loyal customer, I was entitled to an early check in. she was polite and courteous and although there was a disgruntled customer nearby, Radha never stopped smiling, while being checked in we spoke about places to visit and my homeland of Barbados. It really made me think that it is the people and the little things that they do well that makes a trip. If ever you go to the Novotel Waterloo, pray that you are fortunate enough to be checked in by Radha. Alvin

A mixed bag

I stayed for 3 weeks (Sunday to Friday). Rooms were nice but ask for one without an interconnecting door (you can hear every word that is said in the adjoining room). Rooms on the “garden” side (there is no garden) are really noisy from delivery vehicles and people standing outside the bar. Rooms at the front and “courtyard” side (there is no courtyard, just a view of Lambeth police station) are quieter. Forget trying to eat in the restaurant … the bar staff try to fob you off with saying the menu is the same as in the bar (but I wanted to eat in peace, not in a noisy bar) so they leave the restaurant area in darkness. Breakfast is nice if you like the most undercooked sausages and bacon I’ve ever seen and you like “hot” food stone cold. Handy hint - put your bread through the toaster twice and it just about looks cooked. Housekeeping was good for two weeks, then I got an unannounced knock at 4.45pm followed by a rapid entry before I’d even got out off the bed … for someone to check the room had been serviced. Yeah, right. Final straw was on checkout day. Checkout is 12 noon. Received another unannounced knock followed by a rapid entry at 8.45am … checking I would be leaving! One receptionist was friendly and helpful (young man), shame the others haven’t learnt from him.

Thank you and well done to Victoria and Kamila/Camila at reception and also to Louisa in the hospitality team. You all are super awesome at your roles. Keep up the excellent five 5 customer service. The cleaning team on the ground floor are brilliant too-super clean. p.s. A lady from the housekeeping team was very kind, sadly she was told off by a supervisor for helping instead of doing her job. Kindness is everyone`s job.

Booked for my 40th birthday weekend away. Arrived early on Friday and as room wasn’t ready, we couldn’t check in. No issue, we left our bags off and headed out for a few hours. Came back around 5pm to check in. Went to pay the room with cash to be told the hotel is cashless. Informed that it states this clearly on the website (in a drop down box), no mention of this on the booking confirmation or anywhere you would expect to see it! Informed the staff at the desk that I had no card to pay as I had intended to pay cash. As it was by now after 5pm I wasn’t able to go to the bank and lodge cash. I agreed to allow the hotel to hold the 1st nights payment on my card until the next day when I could lodge cash. Next day lodged cash and went down to pay to be told that the payment on my Amex card would only be released upon checkout (not what was agreed). Asked several times to speak to the manager only to be told that the person I was speaking to was in charge of the front desk and she would deal with the issue. Paid 2 nights while they tried to sort the hold on my other card. Sunday evening we arrived back to the hotel to change to go out for my birthday dinner. Our room hadn’t be serviced. My wife rang down to see why and was told that we hadn’t paid for the 3rd night. We then were expected to sit in the room whilst the housekeeper cleaned around us. At this stage I’d had enough and booked a room for our final night in a nearby hotel! Such a shame as the room and location were great, but I wouldn’t book another stay in any Novotel hotel. There are much more professionally run hotels in the vicinity.
