This is a perfectly adequate Ibis standard hotel in a quiet location just 10 minutes’ drive from the charming and elegant town of Chalon en Champagne. The staff are friendly and speak English. Rooms are small yes as is always the case with this brand but well designed within ; small wardrobe and shelves, wall TV, chairs. Very comfortable mattress; excellent air conditioning in summer; good sound insulation and black out. Modern bathroom with space for toiletries , shower cabinet and loo. What more can you expect - some reviews are undeservedly harsh. There is a restaurant with simple fare for those who don’t want to drive into town which is worth the effort: a lively and prosperous place with loads of restaurants (less choice Sundays but a few are open). A good choice for one night if travelling on the motorway. The Ibis Styles in the town centre is also good.

We stayed here unexpectedly when the hotel we had booked cancelled our room. Despite it being a busy bank holiday weekend they managed to find us 2 rooms at short notice. The rooms were compact but clean and tidy, the corridors were a bit tired and grubby, the receptionist was friendly and helpful. The hotel is a bit off the beaten track, but nice and quiet with plenty of parking, and not expensive.

Wholly disappointing : avoid the restaurant

We have stayed here in the past and been pleased. It seems ibis have been taken over by a new company ; new staff . Initially couldn’t find our reservation , restaurant staff speak no English ( not a problem for us but advertises English spoken) : waiting staff monosyllabic at best . Food has increased in price by almost 100% and gone down in quality by a similar percentage . My starter of ham snd chicken salad consisted of lettuce leaves, sliced cucumberx3 bits, 2 slices of tomato, no ham and chopped up processed chicken roll . The pichet of rose was not chilled . My husband had a seafood platter with no means of cracking snow crab legs provided . The main course of grilled sea bass was over cooked whole fish : really poor and €20 ! We have already booked to sleep here en route back from our holiday but will eat elsewhere and not return . This has hitherto been a great drop off point en route south but it has not so much gone downhill as fallen off the cliff . Two scored because the room is clean and cool .

We have used this Ibis as an overnight stop while travelling in France. The accommodation is basic and clean, just right for a one night stay. We were looking forward to a meal in the restaurant but were very disappointed this time. The chips were shrivelled, they looked as if they had been reheated several times. Carrots were al dente to say the least. What was described as veal was like chewing escargot in a milky slime. Overall not a pleasant experience. If you must eat there, keep to salad and avoid anything cooked.
