Could have been better! (A lot better!)

Beware Brits! We’ve been staying at this Novotel on and off for over 15 years on our way to and from the south of France and we have always really looked forward to our stop over here! I can honestly say that the food which used to be pretty good is now verging on appalling. The quality of the evening meal was poor the charcuterie board at 22€ was not good…packet salami, old cheese and no baguette available to have with it…meat was tough (bavette steak on way down and burger on return) and breakfasts are terrible too…why they can’t serve ordinary baguette (so delicious!) and even the scrambled eggs are made from powder…truly horrendous…and at 19€ you would expect a vaguely decent one. The rooms are very hot at night (this was April!) so can’t imagine what it would be like in the summer…air con comes on but does not cool the room. Run by an accountant I would imagine. Talked to other guests who have found the same re: poor food and air con turned down so doesn’t work. Stayed at a Novotel in Grenoble on same trip and pleased to say that normality reined there still so it’s not all Novotel’s that have dropped in quality! Final moan! Lovely tea/coffee set up but no English tea (though lots of herbal teas) and no milk same on the way down (strange as there are hundreds of Brits who stay here on their runs to and from skiing and south of France as I said previously this had all the signs of being a hotel run by an accountant who doesn’t understand business. Incidentally small health & safety issue…the water that had been left in the back of the Nespresso coffee maker had been there quite some time and looked distinctly unhealthy…didn’t have a coffee needless to say! On a positive note the room was of a good standard and in the new part of the hotel. Surprised at the other reviews on here…don’t reflect the hotel now at all. Stayed on the way down and the way back just to give the hotel a proper chance but was equally poor on both visits…shame as I used to really enjoyed staying here. Looking for somewhere else to stay in future sadly.

A very basic hotel. Nothing 4 star about it. On the website it says pool is closed from second week of April however the pool was already closed. I booked it mainly because there was a pool. Breakfast is also very basic and not worth 19 euros. Paper cups and not properly stocked in room facilities.

Not well maintained. Bathroom door not working and generally in need of updating. Reasonable basic breakfast. Car parking OK. Easy to find. Fairly cheap. Beds not that comfy. Clean. Check in and check out easy. Staff left room cards out for us when reception was closed.

Excellent overnight stop.

We stayed here on our way down to Germany and also on our return journey to the UK. We found the staff at reception very friendly and welcoming. My grandson loved the little activity pack that he was given. Out bedroom was on the first floor, there was no lift and I struggle with stairs. But as soon as I mentioned it to the staff our room was immediately changed to one on the ground floor. The room was spotlessly clean spacious and comfortable. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was very good. We also found the breakfast had lots of choice and was good quality. The large Carrefour just over the road was a bonus, we were able to stock up on supplies and fuel before continuing our journey. Will definitely be staying here again when we need an overnight stop.

Easy to find near the motorway. Very kind snd attentive service. Room perfect for wheelchair users on the ground floor. Excellent restaurant for dinner and an amazing breakfast. We stayed on our way South, and also coming back. We’d certainly stay here again!
